I'm beginning to do more and more towards making my own knives. My latest project has been to "pimp" a champagne Boker auto regular blade. The handle, scales, washers, everything are formed in the one piece annodized alluminum handle. I've left the top of the knife alone where the pivot pin, plunger, etc. are located for knife integrity. They now appear as bolsters, and ground down the outer scales half the original thickness. What I've ground off will be replaced by scales. This was a cheap knife and will always be a cheap knife, but now I'm thinking of using it as a template to build a brand new knife. My question is, is there anything wrong with using alluminum as liners, frame etc. It is light, strong, easy to work with, and best of all it can be annodized to a beautiful and colorful finish. Are there drawbacks I'm not aware of.
