So I’m debating on rehanging my axe head on this handle due to the previous depth of the kerf cut in relation to the head. I picked this axe up at an estate sale so I didn’t hang it originally

The axe head I’m definitely using ha. It’s the handle I’m debating. Overall it looks to be in good shape with no major cracks. I’m wondering if I need to sand it down by the shoulder to make the head slip down further

Looks like you have plenty of shoulder to re-use that handle. Just shave off the shelf and set it down a little lower. I wouldn't hesitate to re-use it.
