i really want that new zt 562 but i dont want to spend for the cf m390 model. Has their elmax improved because my first zt had a jacked up burn edge with that couldnt get sharp. What are ur thoughts on their elmax as of lately

This topic comes up all the time. The ZT Elmax is good, you will likely not have any issues, if you do ZT will take care of you. /thread

Not one knife was ever returned to ZT for having bad blade steel that I've heard of.

I have a fairly recently made ZT 0561 and have cut all kinds of crap up with it and it holds the edge very well. My wife just got the 0566bw and I haven't done any cut tests with it but it sharpens up easier than the 0561 and, imo, takes a better polish. Not saying my 0561 doesn't take a good polish, but the 0566bw was a snap. Took maybe an hour to reprofile it to about 17 degrees per side with an imperfect mirror finish (my impatience versus problems with the knife or sharpener). I was impressed. Now to test it. Anyway, I'm really digging on the elmax they've been putting out, at least recently.

Never heard of it.

Jk, love it on both my 0560s.

These elmax threads are getting old. The search function is you friend.

A couple of days ago I used my ZT 0801 to carve a bit of deer antler.
The Elmax is holding up just fine.

I cannot give pronouncements on how it compares to every other steel out there, but it sure has been living up to my needs. :)

I've said this before but I've been using Kershaw/ZT knives with Elmax since they started using it. 0551, Speedform II and several 056x have all performed without any issues at all. A good all around steel based on my personal observations.

Agreed. Better than 154cm, S30v, s35vn, and d2, imo. Also imo better than s110v because in terms of edge retention relative to ease of sharpening, elmax has a better ratio.

Not...this...again!

It is going to be a quality knife from a stand up company. If you like it get it. I highly doubt you will be disappointed.

Every knife I have held that came out of the oregon shop has came sharp and easily returned to that condition.

Looks like the OP just needs a bit of a kick in the pants to spend the $ on a ZT with Elmax. I know it took me a while to be willing to spend the kind of money involved on a folder. Elmax is good.

I sharpen on diamonds so S110V gets my vote there.

It takes serious work to dull my Manix 2

Excellent point!

We don't need to see the pocket clip to know you're a knife guy, we can just check the state of the hairs on your forearm. :)

A knife-nut's mange. I wear long sleeve shirts all year long to work. People just don't understand!

Haha. Right!
Well from a guy that has to really try to find hair on both arms, (even have to go to the back of my legs(not kidding) )
Elmax just sharpens so nicely. I have many types of steel, as do most of us, and my 0560 sharpens very fast, but really holds the edge. I've spent days using it and when I got home thought no way this is still shaving sharp. Wrong, still effortless . Strop, and back to business.
Elmax is great.

How many more need to come in before we get the

" just ordered " post??
