Don't focus on violent acts. Think of kindnest. Pray for love. Reject thoughts of aggression. The sword will move freely. There will be no enemy. The cuts will find the deserving without concious direction. We need to focus on tranquility.

There is only one reality. Those who live and those who die.

I, for one, have never subscribed to the bleating of the grass eaters.

To everything there is a season.

Right now, it's hunting season.

Later will be a season for cleansing and healing.

Both are needed.

Sams, you really don't want to go there in this group. Please trust the voice of experience. If you want someone to talk to about this philosophy, my e-mail address is othrside@bmts.com.

And folks, kindly relax, kay? Everybody gets to have an opinion.

Rust has added Liar to the rest of his contemptible repertoire because like all the Trolls they don't really mean it when they say "they're leaving never to return" but then we knew what Rust is from the posts he has made in the past and as Rust stated in the 1st link below he does not belong here.

To quote Rust on the post he made in Nov. '01, "There's some darned good people here, but there's also a lot of people with true colours which I can not abide; the savage, the faithless, and the vicious."
I'm damned proud to be among the people that Rust can not abide!!!! Rust must be very lonely and as unloved in his own country as he is here since he comes back here thinking maybe we have forgotten the kind of maggot he truly is.
I for one will never forget!!!!!

Rust is an affront to all the US Veterans living or dead that served in our Armed Forces let alone the innocents that lost their lives, mothers and fathers, uncles and aunts, cousins,
in-laws and close friends on 9-11-'01!!!!!

Passive resistence would be fantastic, but unfortunately, it will not work in Nepal. in order for passive resistence to be effective there must be a real force in the background to contain the level of violence. Right now that does not exist. The revolutionaries can massacre the entire population without fear of reprisal. Ghandi and his followers would have been little more than fertilizer if the eyes of the world had not been intensely focused on India, and Nepal is not even on the radar screen.

No, the people in Nepal have the right understanding of the situation. They can either yield, or fight back with overwhelming violence, there is no other way.

I can find no civil answer to that, save that I need not defend myself against such garbage. It must be difficult, to be a man so filled with hate that a difference of opinion is worth the betrayal of a friendship and a festering anger that you won't allow to die. I could never have respected you again, Yvsa, but I'd hoped at least we could come to a silent agreement to leave well enough alone.

And this, in a time so trying for the moderator as is. Disgusting.

It's hard to look at the photo from the Nepal paper Uncle Bill posted, being an emphatic person, and not have the same sort of reaction that I share with Yvsa. Atrocities often require two groups of people - those who commit them and those who stand by and do nothing. If I may be allowed the metaphor of forest fires, sometimes the only way to stop a fire is with fire; and, as unfortunate as it may be, violence with violence.

Incidentally, I believe that India independence was a rather unique situation in other ways - I don't think passive resistance would have worked against a non-cricket-playing nation. Seriously - can you imagine passive resistance working about another colonial nation? And, alas, though Gandhi has been much lauded, I wonder again if non-violence didn't simply lead to massive violence later on. Lesser known facts about Gandhi are that during the war he tacitly lend support, not to Nehru, but to Bose, who was involved with the Indian People's Army (People's Army of India? something like that), which conspired with Japan. And that Gandhi was instrumental in frustrating the Muslim League's attempts to be involved in the creation of the new Indian state, as co-partners with the Congress Party, which lead to the Muslim League's withdrawal and decision to form the state of Pakistan -- thus the Partition, the aftermath of which was unthinkable violence and bloodshed..

There's my bit for the night - though this thread seems a likely candidate to be deleted anyway, but, there it is...it's hard to feel laissez-faire about Nepal even just trying to imagine what it must be like for the innocent people there.
