I'm taking the full on peanut challenge. My blue jigged bone peanut is in the mail right now. 1 year is a long time, but I think I'll be able to at least get a few months.

Moving this to a more appropriate sub-forum...link left in "Traditional".

The last I heard, spydutch (Arend) was using the classic as a prime cutting tool as an experiment. His last post on it was that so far, thye classic was doing all he needed, and he was lightening up his back up as well.

The classic is a fine little knife, much like the Case peanut; vastly underrated as a cutting tool because of it's tiny size. Heck, I always thought them a joke untill I spent months watching my better half abuse one in all manner of ways, and it never failed her. Then I carried one, and got hooked.

Now I just carry a Case peanut and my classic. My peanut is my 'big' knife.

LOL. That's pretty funny because I feel the same way. After using the Classic for a while, the Peanut DOES look and feel like a big knife. The Buck Cadet, which is not much bigger then a Peanut, feels HUGE!! And my Soddie Jr. Feels like a sword. Haha

Funny. I'm also experimenting with a smaller setup. I have a Victorinox Saphire Midnight Manager attached to a Fenix E01 and that's currently my setup. It will be my EDC knife this week.

I wonder if experimenting with smaller setups is something that comes with age?

I used to be a little nuts in my youth, with some large carry items. Now in my 60's and being a retired old fart, I find myself looking for smaller and smaller items that will do the job. Mini binoculars instead of regular size, tiny AAA LED pocket flashights like the E01 instead of AA minimags. I used to look at the old guys when I was young, who would take out a little pen knife to cut something, and wonder why they would bother with such a tiny thing. Now I know a little more, and I know that sometimes you don't need a lot to get it done. And using smaller and lighter gear, means you can carry more gear in a day to day life.

Or even, smaller knives weigh less, so you can carry more knives? Doesn't every knife knut carry more than one? I find with a smaller sak, I can carry a peanut, and maybe even another knife of some type. Pocket stuff that is really usable for a lot of stuff.

I have always been obsessed with carrying more capabilities for less weight. Today I use my Vic Manager for most tasks, and I find it adequate and completely non-threatening. For larger and more demanding cutting tasks, I carry a Ka-Bar Dozier Large Folding Hunter. Considering its 3.67" blade length and 4mm (0.157") blade thickness, the 4 oz weight is very low. For everything else I carry a customized SOG Pocket Powerplier multi tool weighing 5.1 oz. Completing the setup I carry a mini Bic lighter, a Fenix L0D AAA flashlight, and a short titanium spork. I can tackle a lot and still be discreet for approximately 12 oz in my pocket.
