Would appreciate your direction on the right thread for stitch work, sheaths will be dark brown primarily, and a stitch wheel with 7 stiches per inch.

Thank you so much!!

Sorry I'm probably not much help but I have used Tejas thread from Tandy since I first started in the early 90's. The tensile strength of the stuff is amazing and I dont have to spend the time to wax it. Though sometimes they put out a spool that is a little (ok a LOT) much in the way of wax, but that is easily remedied.

Also, I cheat as my eyes are well, TERRIBLE. I use one of the thonging chisels from Tandy from day one, it makes a nice visible mark. those little dimples from the stitching wheels are nearly invisible to me. :p

Dampen the leather a bit b4 you run the stitch wheel, it will leave deeper dimples and be easier to see....as you'll be stitching 3 layers (or more) of leather together most times when making a sheath, I believe 7 spi is a little too much.....I think 6 or 5 is better for sheaths. As Uncle Al (Stohlman) teaches, the thicker the leather, the longer the stitch should be.....just a thought.
