There seems to be a rash of thread necromancy lately. It can be rather annoying, and i feel we have passes that threshold here. Some other forums i frequent actually ban the practice, and lock the necroed threads when they occur. Perhaps the doing something similar here should be contemplated.

Ok, just to clear this up. You are saying it is annoying to you that members post and/or comment on old threads.

The occasional thread doesnt bother me, and the practice can unearth interesting threads that I as a newer member havenot seen before. But having an excessive number of dead, no longer relevant threads clutter up the first page can be annoying, especially for longtime members. Resurrecting year old "what knife should i buy" threads just so you can put your two cents in on a dead issue, for instance, is silly and needs to stop.

I've already put a reminder in my Iphone calender to revive this 5 years from today...

Here's what I do. I glance at the thread, realize it's years old, and then make one of two decisions: I either participate in it with a reply (especially if new information comes up), or simply exit out of it and never go back.

Usually the latter. And that requires no work for anybody else.

When people start new threads to ask about the same old questions other people get annoyed. When someone bumps an old thread to avoid starting a new one some people are not happy about it either. It's a game you can't win.. and this too has been discussed ad nauseam much before this. :D

This thread is beating a dead horse. Then creating another dead horse for the sake of beating. Wait...did I spell sake right? Or is that what Japanese people drink? My brain hurts.

Just a suggestion. As I said, some of the other forums i read are much stricter about it. I often thought too strict and even unreasonable at times, but after lurking places where this isn't prohibited for awhile, I totally get it now. ;)

Besides, this forum is fairly gung ho about enforcing certain rules. I found the thread necromancy rule omission somewhat odd.
