For those of you who may not be familiar with the Dendra Panoply, it is a complete set of bronze armor found in a grave in Southern Greece some years ago. It has been dated to about 1400 BCE, or to the height of the Mycenaean Era in mainland Greece, the period of the Trojan War. It has always been maintained that the armor must have been intended for a charioteer to wear and use as it must have been too heavy and awkward for someone to use while fighting on foot. THere have been those who have challenged this assumption and now, a re-eanctor has acquired a replica set of the armor and plans to try it out as a useable armor for foorsoldiers. The replica is a beauty to behold. Please check out the link, which is a thread titled "Dan's New Toy" from SwordForums' "Ancient Armour Studies forum".

Thanks for the link Hugh, I managed to miss it over there. It isn't what I would call elegant, but it's a fascinating armor none the less.

Oh, come now! Try to visualize Dan Howard in a Boars' Tusk Helmet and carrying a spear and a bronze rapier and then tell me that it is not elegant.
