I found a threadmill at my favorite junkyard..it has a 1.75 hp motor. However, the cord which plugs into the back and evidently operates the control for on/off and speed is missing. I need to know if this is a major problem. Do I have to replace the cord with the exact same thing or can I take it to a electric motor shop and get them to wire in something that will work.

If it is just the plug in cord, you can use a heavey duty cord and plug in with no problem. If it any of the wires from the control box to to the switches and motor you would be better off taking it to a shop and having them re wire it,unless you can match which wires connected to each other and then just replace those with a wire of the same size.
I had to extend the wires on mine so the control panel would be away from the grinder, and The one I got from Surplus supply came with a wiring scamatic and I had to get the wire and wire it myself,So with a little effort and time you should be able to fix it yourself with no problem.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, its the cord for the controls which is missing (also the controls). The wall plug cord is intact. I'll stop by a shop tomorrow and see what they can do.

You used to be able to get the circuit board from Surpluss suply for these motors. If you have everything except then control knobs all you need is a reostat and a on and off switch...If you need it I will look and see if I can find the wiring scumatic that I have for the motors that I have.
Good luck.
