Ok guys, let me just admit it right now............I was wrong. I thought that all the folks out there spouting the virtues of nano-lubes were full of it. I mean, "come on", I thought "What could be better than the PTFE/Teflon based lubes that I'm using already.

Well, I finally bit the bullet and purchased a small amount of St Claire's Nano-Oil and a small amount of Diamond Lube's NDN30ATM+P Diamond Nano-Lube.

Ok, a bit of science for those of you who have never heard of these. Basically, they essentially worn on the principle that if you take a very tiny diamonds ( Between 0.05 and 0.4 microns for Diamond Lube & approx 0.5-0.7 for Nano-Oil ), and more importantly ROUND diamonds, and have them in suspension, when you put that substance between two surfaces that would have friction two things happen........First, all of those tiny little particles fill in microscopic cracks and crevices in the steel or other material. This obviously reduces friction and makes it a smoother, slicker surface. The second action would be that, due to the fact that these particles are so small, but also due to the fact that they are round, they reduce friction by a ridiculous amount, even on two completely flat ( to the human eye ) metal surfaces.

There's more info on the websites, along with tests and a bunch of other junk.

Anyhow, to make a long story short. I've tried them both out and, they are incredible. Now, some might consider them expensive ( $22+ shipping for 5ml ), but the fact is, if you like your knives to shoot open like an ice cube on a hot griddle, then this is the stuff.

I seem to notice that the Diamond Lube seems to work a little bit better on standard pivots ( Bronze or other washers or bushings ) and the Nano-Lube works a little better on knives with ball bearings ( IKBS, KVT, ZTVT ). Thats just my personal experience, but I truly believe that anyone who wanted to try one or the other would see a significant improvement over any lube they are currently using on all their knives.

OK, I can only post so much glowing review, but for those out there who have had the same experience I did, let some folks know. I would have gotten these much sooner if I had heard more about them.

I have been using Nano-Lube for a while now and it is very effective. Even though it is somewhat pricey that little tube with the needle applicator will last a VERY long time. You only need a few drops of the stuff. I had not previously heard of Diamond Lube so I better check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

are they still suing each other over the "Nano" particles?

Anecdotal evidence is useless, and both of these products heavily rely on that. you're paying a lot for rebranded oil with questionable properties.

Whats funny is I was about to start a thread on the same stuff. Got mine in today...

And so far I am very impressed.

How long does this stuff stay in the pivot? I have used some good oils and they do work good for a short period of time but it seems like it's very short lived and I have to reapply often. Because of that I tend to use crk grease on my better folders. The problem with that is you have to break the knife down to apply it so I'm less likely to do it as often as I probably should. It would be nice to find something that would last a month or so of heavy use in a liquid state with a nice needle applicator.

They may be fantastic lubes, but their marketing is shady and without any real information or meaning.

Nano what? It's a meaningless term by itself. It means a billionth... so a billionth of what? So we have two companies with a meaningless marketing term.
A micron is a millionth of a meter. So .3 microns is 300 nanometers. Imagine ball bearings 300 times smaller than whatever axle or shaft they are trying to be mounted because that's exactly how these are supposed to work. So we have two companies with a meaningless marketing term.
The only actual test I saw on Diamond Lube's website was the stupid Falex test which is a garbage test by itself. It's the same one that Militec-1 uses to proclaim how great their crap product is. The same test that plain chlorine bleach would do very well on.
