some pics from a three day trip into the Crazy Mountains, unfortunately my camera got damaged (lens got cockeyed) so some of the trip didn't make it in.

was a great trip though, weather was near perfect saw lots of wildlife- deer, elk and had several mountain goats hanging close to our camp the second night

headed up to Cottonwood Lake

one of these years I'll actually draw a goat permit for this area :D

Beautiful area. I'd love to hike Montana some time.

we're pretty spoiled- lots of nice places and pretty thin on people, saying that we really want to hike the Sierra's- seriously thinking about doing the JMT

Stunning photos. I love it, shorts and snow. My kinda guy. Thanks for the inspiring scenery. Moose

Very nice
Did you summit any of those peaks from camp or dayhike and have a looksee at the scenery
How was the food
Great time of year-not too many bugs and no folks usually
Thanks for posting

Beautiful country up there. And having few people is an added bonus.

While there are very scenic areas in the Sierras where you will not encounter any people, the JMT is not one of them.

Same thing happened to my Canon the other day. Lens goes halfway out and is half crooked. I can hear gears grinding and it won't move. :(

we did make it up to Grasshopper Glacier which was a pretty good pull out of our first nights camp, we ran out of time for any peak bagging

food was good (I rarely have a bad meal in the backcountry as you're so darn hungry :D)- our typical fare is: breakfast- granola cereal w/ dehydrated fruit w/ dried whole milk- it's tough to find, but it makes a huge difference in taste, breakfast bar and coffee; snacks- Mojo bars, Gatorade; lunch- mini pitas w/ dried salami and cheddar; supper- freeze dried meal of some sorts and usually a dessert :)

yeah- pretty popular destination, but figured a person better do it at least once in his life, we are planning for a mid-September trip which might thin the crowd a little

exactly! I used my knife (gently) to get it pried back in, but never worked right after- I ended up sending mine in to Olympus and paid $45 to have it fixed (was out of warranty)- cheaper than a new camera- and we've been pretty pleased w/ the camera

Nice. I used to live outside of Big Timber out by Tin Can Hill and had an good view of those mountains.

I've also lived in the Sierras in Cali for a short while.

There is NO comparision. The mountains in Montana have an lot more game animals and much fewer people. The only lonely area I came across in Cali was in the Coast Range area and the Yolla Bolla wilderness. Lots of black bears too.

^ know where that is :)

few more pics I was able to get using a card reader vs straight from the camera- the mishap evidently corrupted the memory card

Pretty hard to get a snow angel on that summer snow lol
Goats you say.Be a nice hunt are they lottery drawn( long odds at drawing?).Any mt goat is a trophy
I had applied this fall but wasnt successful always next year right
Thanks
Dan'l

that was more of a "we finally made it up here" angel :) (Grasshopper Glacier)

yup- it's drawing- 50 permits (unfortunately ~ 1500 applicants, so about 1 in 30 chance), we do have a preference point system in place so that ups your odds a bit, also if you do draw a permit you're out for 7 years (I'd be out for good, figure it would a once in a life experience :))

From the Fallkniven site:

More than half the world’s population is female – and yet Model WM is probably the first sheath knife designed from scratch to suit the hands and requirements of women. The non-aggressive blade design, the safe well-tailored handle, the robust leather sheath - everything breathes functionality. The clean lines are not an objective in themselves; it is rather the function that has governed the design of what has become a complete sheath-knife for everyday usage.
" I guess ya in touch with your feminine side eh !:D"

Only messin buddy, great pics as always, that looks an awesome area !

yeah I've seen that on Fallkniven's site :D in reality someone w/ very large hands might not like the WM1 (probably could be said for most small knives??)- for small to medium sized hands however...... very, very nice :)
