I recently scored a three dot 1980-81 110 and I gotta say, this thing dwarfs my 2005 Idaho stamp 110! Thicker because of the squared off bolsters and feels heavier and stronger. Love the 440C that I honed to razor sharp. This thing is a tank. This is what the Buck 110 should look like. It's the masculine version of the Buck 110 which were almost "feminized" with the rounded bolsters. My new edc/camp/hunting/backpacking knife.

Just picked one up a month ago, 1st 3 dot, luv it!!
Yes sir. I'm thinking about scoring a couple more 3 dots to gift to my kids when they get old enough for a knife for camping. I had my first folder at a very young age in Boy Scouts in the 80's before they went WOKE. The 110 was the first knife I held back in '84 I believe when I was really young and part of Indian Guides (before Boy Scouts).

I have to agree, and my three dot is one of my most carried Buck 110 Folding Hunters, had it on Thursday and Friday for a fishing and hunting trip. This is also another good opportunity to try posting a picture via the new software. OH

David I have been led to believe they have 425m.So when did Buck start using 425m?
After the 3 dot in 1980-81. So the 4 dots from 1981-86 and the symbol years from 1986-92 had 425M. Then they switched to 420HC in 1993 to present day. Here is an awesome in depth Buck 110 history with pictures I found recently:

I have my dads old three dot. I could be wrong but I think he bought it in 1974. That knife sharpens real easy. it is just a great old knife.

Ok, pencil this down as I'm trying to clear up this misinformation. 440c was used during the 3 dots (1980). All before as well. 4 dots are 425m steel (1981). Then in 1992 Buck began to Phase in 420 steel. Thus, it cannot be determined which steel it is without metallurgical testing.
My money is on the 1993 year code blades are 420 steel.
3 dots were reported to only been offered the 1 year, 1980.
There is a sticky above that covers this subject. DM

Ah yes, the Three Dot.

Wasn't that the one that got the first in-house heat treat by the Buck BOS master heat treater?

Seems I remember some postings about that.
