As most of you know, my first Fiddleback knife showed up yesterday. I was looking for a necker and both the Runt and Karda caught my eye. I asked Andy's opinion on which one would work best for my (looking for a companion for fishing and camping) and he said he'd go with the Karda.

He had a few coming up in a recent batch and I got pretty excited to see the finished product. There was a little mix-up and I didn't end up getting one from that batch but Andy said to email him what I wanted.

Here she is...Orange G10, black spacer, convex grind and Andy put in two G10 pins which are really cool.

I've got to get the sheath rigged up for neck carry but until then it's riding in my right front pocket. I carried it all day today and had to check a few times to make sure it was still there it carries so well. The complete package disappears even in the pocket of a pair of dress pants. :D

I am looking foward to putting this one to good use.

Man, you got a bit of tarnishing on the signature area of the spine. Hmm. I coat those things in mineral oil before shipping. I wonder what thats about.

I noticed that but didn't know if it was from the etching. Think I could hit it lightly with some flitz and get the tarnish off without removing the signature?

Maybe. Probably not. 01. Cuts like a demon, patinas real fast.

I tried a little flitz lightly and did a little good but if I went any further the signature would suffer as well.

"Cuts like a demon, patinas real fast" - sounds perfect to me!

Mineral oil? Wasn't it Rusty who used Karma Sutra oil to coat his blades? :)

Make them more seductive, I betcha.

Dylside, is that your handly work? Not only is it decent looking...the Karda locks in really nicely!

It went on it's first fishing adventure tonight. I had it rigged up as a necker and it worked perfectly. I decided to filet up the 25 bluegill I caught but the next batch are going to get scaled and dressed out to be pan fried. I think I'll give the Karda a try as it's going to by my backup knife fish prep knife in case my Bird & Trout get's misplaced or I forget to pack it up.

Yep. Dylside did the kydex. Hopefully his skills will rub off on me some.

Westy,

Wise decision to get a Fiddleback. Andy puts extra effort into his knives and it, as Emeril says, "kicks it up a notch!"

I really like the G10 on this.

Dylside - nice kydex!

Now go break her in right...

Yellow Lab

Hey Yellow Lab - does this count for breaking her in right?

Philly Steak & Cheese Bacon Explosion...

  • 1 1/2 pounds of bacon
  • 1 pound of home made whole hog sausage
  • 8 oz ribeye
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 5 sliced mini bella mushrooms
  • 4 slices of provolone cheese (not pictured)

All of the prep work was done using my new Karda. It worked extremely well for such a small package. If I were stuck in camp with only this knife to prep food, I'd be OK with that. :D

Andy you are right, this steel does cut like the devil

Here's the final product (sorry for the crappy cell phone picture) - also pictured is my buddy's brand new Bark River Bravo 1 that a few of us went together to get him for his 5th tour overseas. He was itching to cut something with it so I let him carve up the explosion.

The explosion was served on pieces of garlic bread!

Sweet blade - if you have any in hand pics feel free to post them up. I've been looking at this blade for a while and am wondering if fits in the hand as well as my BLJ does. For a two finger knife that BLJ sure seems like a larger handled knife.

Nice choice of handle color!

WOW. I've never seen basket weaved bacon. Its really quite wonderful to behold.

Thanks for the compliments guys (both on the bacon and the Karda)!

The bacon weave is pretty amazing and I've found it to make wrapping things in bacon very easy. Usually I do a venison tenderloin inside but this time I got side tracked with the Philly Steak n' Cheese concept - turned out to be a good one. I've done quail and pheasant as well (also have pictures if anyone is interested).

myright - I will get you some in hand shots of my Karda. This being my 1st Fiddleback, I don't have any others to compare it to sizewise.

myright - sorry it took so long to get you some in hand shots. These aren't the greatest (camera battery died on me) but they should give you an idea of the Karda's (3 finger)size.
