all these are different bones by gec.l to r 25 pattern--primitive bone; 23 farmers --natural bone; congress --smooth white. i tried to show the subtle differences but it was beyond my photo ability. the primitive bone was bone from an old cattle yard, some bones 60 yrs. old. the natural bone is the most beautifal handle in my gec collection, the light streak in center of handle is actually lighter bone not a reflection. that 23 absolutely looks exactly like real ivory & i'm sorry i ca'nt portray it well . the congress is labeled smooth white.

Dennis your collection of GEC is to be envied.

Do you have a favorite handle material from GEC? I have seen so many i like i don't know which i would want next to be honest.

Plain bones make the knife simple in its lines, and the Congress is an excellent example.

Knarfeng's toothpick is another example of simplifying the knife

members i do'nt want to sound like a broken record but i think i've captured the bone colors of this great handle.

One of my first GEC knives was a Natural Bone Beaver Tail 73 Tidioute. Nice 'pores' in the bone which give a rich character to the handle. A really good scale material.

I love your GEC's, Dennis. I hope to get one in natural bone or primitive bone when the right pattern jumps up. I am crazy about their three spring cattle knife, which they call a whittler for some reason. That natural bone would just get better in the pocket/hand, I think, as environmental staining began. I wish they would offer two and three blade patterns with a sheepfoot in place of the spey, especially in the cigars, 73's and 23's. BTW, in case you ever need to move your GEC's around, Harbor Freight sells a barrel dolly which makes heavy loads easier to manage! :D:thumbup::eek:

When I got my #25 a couple years ago, it was a toss up between primitve bone or buffalo horn. I got the buffalo, but sometimes I wish I had gone for the primitive bone instead.

Nice threesome Dennis. It adds to a collection to see all the same handle material, even though, like you say the names and colors are a bit different, they look like a set. Looks like it would be a good theme within the GEC realm.

fellas it is a 23 called farmers knife since the single blade is a large spey. everyone loves stag however bone can be done up so many ways that its spectrum is almost infinite. if i could only have one handle material it would be bone. thanks for looking.

Nope. Still not doing it for me. Better mail it to me so I can see the nuances of the color in person. :D

Seriously though, that looks really nice! Thanks for sharing!

Daggumit! Foiled again!

Good to have you back Elliott! Catch any monster fish lately? :D

In endeavoring to keep this thread on track, I think this is the only variety of fish that could be considered on topic...
