These are three unadulterated, unadorned, traditional lockback folders made by Jess Horn. The first model is a BHL or Big Horn Lockback with a 3 1/2" blade. It looks like a Loveless Stiffhorn and the Loveless Stiffhorn pattern is based on this Jess Horn blade shape. Second is a PF or Pocket Fighter with a 3 1/8" boot blade, and last is a SF or Street Fighter with a 3 1//2 " blade and a Loveless style handle. All are stainless and pre ban ivory.

I love me some Jess Horn knives!
Great lines, dramatic and attractive but so utilitarian and functional.
From the pics I've seen over the years, finish work looks pretty top tier- would love to have more 'hands on' experience however ;)
The whole package imo.

I am also a long-time serious fan of Jess Horn knives.
Really wonderful...thank you for sharing the beautiful pieces of the great maker !

I am also a fan of Jess Horn's knives and all three are SWEET!

I have yet to handle one, but there is no doubt of how well made they are, judging from the consistent demand and price they command.

Hello!

Thank you for sharing (even though it is not my cup of tea)! Do you happen to know, what steel was used?

Regards,
Alex

Three wonderful Horn folders. Those are truly special, Jess makes a fantastic folder and is humble and friendly fellow I have had the privilege to get to know in recent years. Thanks so much for sharing.

I love.....

... the lighting on the first image. :D Of course I like the knives, too. ;)

Thanks everyone. Alex, the steel is 416 SS for the bolsters and liners, ATS 34 for the blade. Kevin, the Pocket Fighter with the boot blade is pretty rare, it serial #10 and for example the BHL is #640. Jim, the lighting is window light bounced off a Westcott reflector. Lo tech like my old Nikon D70.

Those are classics Martin.. Clean as can be.. Kevin picked a favorite, (PF), but I would pick the Street Fighter as my favorite of the three.. We don't get to see 3 Horn's at once very often.. (I'm going to go back and search because, I think Dave E. might have done it in one of his Sunday posts..) Again, a pleasure to see these classic lockbacks... Best Regards, Rich

... Or much less five of them. (They came in for individual shots, and I could NOT resist.)

With your permission Martin? Are any of yours in this pack?

Coop

Jim, none of those are mine. From the top down in your picture is an FBK folding boot knife, NYS, LF large fighter, SF like mine and a MF medium fighter. Jess had a large fighter in ivory on his table in Solvang in 2010. $4000. I saw one on a dealers table two weeks ago at the ECCKS. $5500 and it sold.

All are superb.

I do prefer the last two, the Pocket Fighter and the Street fighter, probably the most.

While the knives ARE NOT controversial, I would state that Jess kept a shorter blade in a longer handle, this influenced Frank Centofante, who made knives in very similar proportions.

My favorite maker who was exceptional at a higher blade-to-handle ratio was the equally talented and notable, but sadly departed, Harvey McBurnette.

If I may, Martin, you can certainly request that I not either by e-mail or pm.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

STeven, I agree with you on the blade to handle ratio. This Boguszewski Cobra has a perfect blade to handle ratio like your McBurnette. Jess made a lot of different models and I like just about all of them.
