Which knife do you carry for the purpose of self-defense?
How do you carry this knife?
Why do you prefer/use a knife instead of other weapons?

Thanks in advance.

-REKAT Sifu
-In a Sastre Concealex sheath, usually horizontal above my back right pocket, IWB when concealment is more important
-Because I can't carry a gun :(

1. Emerson Commander (first) or Spyderco Gunting (second).

2. Right front pocket in my trousers.

3. CASCO is too big and heavy to have as an EDC, CCW permit is close to impossible to get here.

1) REKAT Sifu
2) Vest or Jacket or Rucksack
3) Dont prefer a knife, i`m legally limited to it.
It is not my first choice but a backup to the OC. ;)

BTW: Hello to Regensburg :D

1st choice REKAT Sifu
2nd Spyderco Civilian
3rd tie Emerson Commander / Timberline Wartec

All knives carried right front pocket. First choice SIFU because it is big and it's a tip up carry knife. The Civilian because it's lighter than my SIFU and carries better in slacks or light dress pants.
3 choices because both are smaller than the SIFU and the Sheeple (work associates) are not as intimidated by them.

ALL THESE, BECAUSE FIXED BLADES ARE ILLEGAL TO CONCEAL IN THIS &%$% STATE

1. A variety of different knives.
2. Clipped to a pocket or in a horizontal leather or nylon belt sheath, depending on the knife.
3. I don't prefer the knife over other weapons; I carry it in addition to other weapons. :D

if i only am gonna carry 1 knife, its my BF spec edition smooth handle SIFU, carried strong side in the pocket - sometimes carry fixed blade in the winter, then its a MOD razorback, a CRKT companion, or my old reliable gerber mark 1 - then i carry a crawford custom KFF/gunting/BM AFCK for back up to the back up - my primary weapon is currently a glock 33C w/winchester ranger 125grain JHP's - beats all hell out of any knife imho, thought he knife gets used more lol........also carry a surefire 6Z and def tech OC religously, along w/everything else too...

Any day that I work I usually carry my CRKT wharncliff Mirage, any other day I'll carry that and several other blades. But for most self-defense situations, I'd prefer my hands over a blade.
At SCA or faire is a different situation, though. ;)

Microtech L-UDT is my EDC of choise for anything I may encounter.
I carry it in my left pockt unless I have my Beretta on me in which case I carry it on my weak side, just in case I encounter a weapon retention situation. I can hold the attackers hand down on top of my pistol while reaching for the knife in my right pocket. I do not prefer a knife to any other weapon I have unless I am in a situation where deadly force is warranted. At that time I don't care what I have to do to terminate you. I prefer to use my ASP, or my CAPSTUN spray for defense. I even prefer strong arm tactics to using a knife. It's just too messy for me. Only a last resort. I would shoot you before cutting you.

Currently, I carry usually a Kevin Wilkins Ring Thorn, Bruce Evans damascus skinner, Charlie Ochs MS hunter or Brian Tighe ALO in a kydex or leather belt sheath strong (right) side carry. It´s more of a tool, but I´d use it in self-defense if I couldn´t escape, other possibilities (OC, environmental weapons etc.) have not worked, and the use of deadly force would be justified/required.
I usually carry a backup folding knife, OC, kubotan etc., and prefer Nike-do to (knife) fighting, but the possibility of using the knife in self-defense is still there.

* Spyderco Endura.
* Carry methods vary from clipped to my front pocket, to clipped to my back pocket, to clipped in-waist-band up front.
* To me, a knife is a means of last-resort self-defense only. My life would clearly have to be on the line for me to ever pull it. I.E., I carry the Endura or any other knife 99.999% for utility. But if the proverbial doo doo ever hits the fan, I'll go down fighting.

Knives,Bm 710,Emerson CQC7 or LCC.Carried right front pocket.Running Dog "neck knife" horizontal on belt.I have had a carry permit for close to 20 years, but know what? there are many places I can't carry my gun.

Lets look at this week.2 nights of kids soccer games,at a school can't carry a gun there, working wed. thur. and fri.can't carry there either(although I work in a getto, and responed to shootings, drug over doses ect) 2 nights ago took the kids fishing at a county park no guns allowed there ,last thur.and fri. we we're up in Canada.I think you get the picture,a knife lets me ALWAYS have something and I mean always, when I'm sitting on the deck by my pool i may not have my glock on the table but a blade is.

Well got to go shopping with the kids now,Emerson CQC7 in pocket Glock 23 on hip,see there are some places I can still carry :) .(Don't tell me I've got more than 15 items in my cart :D )

One of my custom pearl inlay damascus 3 1/2 folders. I just toss it at the antagonist and while he is admiring the workmanship, I run like hell the other way. :p

Emerson Commander, right front pocket. I own all sorts of other nice folders (SIFU, SERE 2000, Benchmade 710 etc). However, when all is said and done, and I would ever have to use my knife as a pure defense, I want it opened as quickly as possible. The WAVE really makes it the best and fastest. If you are reacting to a situation, that extra split second you gain with the WAVE, can make the big difference.

A gun would be better, but I can't carry one.

HEH HEH!

What do I carry for self defense knife-wise? First of all, I have inadequate training in self defense with a knife, so I don't take my skills in the area very seriously, if I use the blade it's going to be as an entirely last ditch kinda thing. Ok now...

1: Microtech LCC, Emerson CQC7 /w wave, or a BM AFCK, sometimes all three if I feel insecure, or just want alot of toys to play with while I have nothing else to do.

2: I carry them clipped to the pocket, usually if I carry the LCC/AFCK and CQC7 I carry the LCC or AFCK in the right front, and the CQC7 in the left front at the front of the pocket. It's a neat trick to wave the CQC7 out in a reverse grip. Some people use that method for getting at attackers behind them, but I think it's also useful for normal cutting chores if your right hand happens to be tied up. Just wave it out, switch to a forward grip, and you're set. I don't use sheaths because I haven't seen a sheath that's not uncomfortable to wear.

3: As I said, I don't take my skills using a knife as a weapon seriously. If I could get good training I would. But it's much too expensive considering my current income. That being said, I carry a knife because I haven't yet acquired a handgun of my own(the income problems), or a concealed carry permit for that matter. Even then I would still carry a knife, because I would rather have a knife, which is easier to manipulate, should an attacker be right on top of me. Again, that's only my admittedly half-informed opinions on the subject.

My two currently favorite defensive blades;

My new Szabo/Reif RAD folder
My trusty satin Commander

Spydie Chinook; big, sharp, tough blade, skull-crushing pommel, tough scales, stout design and construction, sort of heavy for a pocket knife but compact for a short Bowie knife. This is sort of a "Buck knife on steroids". Carries well in right front pocket and it gets a lot of "whoahs" from sheeple when it gets whipped out for utilitarian tasks. Makes a nice camp knife too. Can't carry a gun and I don't like to carry guns anyways since they are not useful for anything but shooting at someone/something and they are fairly heavy and bulky. A good folder is a highly versatile tool and I will use my knife a lot more than any gun I own.;)

1) some spyderco or an AFCK, or a fixed blade on my right pocket or belt sheath. A knife on the left for utility, and a REKAT fang around my neck.
2) if my primary knife is a folder that day, in my pocket, if not, in a sheath.
3) I can't carry a gun, and 21 is kind of young for a cane.

I usually carry a neck knife and a folder. That's during the winter months. During the summer I just carry a folder. Either my BM Mono-Lock or my CRKT
Carbon Fiber M16-01(Spear Point).

I carry the folder in my right front jeans
pocket. At work I carry the folder in my right back pocket so it's out of plain site, But accessable the same time.

I carry a knife because OSHA Reg's forbid Firearms
in Health care Facilities. But if you do find Peace Officers with them in those Facilities it took a HELL of a fight to get them their and a real heavy Insurance policy to boot! We have OC but you just never know. Not to mention when leaving the Job after a days work,Trouble might
follow.

1.) Spyderco Wegner (see here )

2.) clipped inside my right side pants pocket

3.) I don't prefer it over other weapons. I always have a pistol of some sort on me, usually a Glock 17 or S&W 640. I do have a lot of faith in my Wegner. It is one helluva knife. I have tried many others and keep coming back.
