I put this together today. Still in its R&D stage, figuring out how I want to mount the center sharpener. The outside sharpeners are mounted and very stable.
This is a Mother of all Camera tripods. It is made for the motion picture industry. Each head would cost a bundle, not ot mention the tripod. I am photographer, and I remembered I had this tucked away, not being used. Frankly, it is just too stout for DSLR's Also comes with a concert case that stage hands can toss off trucks and not hurt the equipment.
One end has the Work Sharp Ken Onion with the Blade grinder attachment. Still to add is a support arm (ordered) to steady a knife blade jig.
This would give a consistent angle every time, when you want to quickly remove material.
The other end has a modified KME sharpener, jaw assembly only.
The middle unit is a Edge Pro clone (real deal on order, had to make sure I wanted one, and which one)
The middle sharpener is the vertical upright post for both manual sharpeners. The middle unit, can swing 90 degrees for use by itself.
An attached Angle Cube can be used for all three sharpeners, and gives true indication of what you are doing.
Why? I want a jaw jig, that uses 6" stones. KME only uses 4". The KME also has a small guide rod, that is too short to move out of the way, as you flip the knife blade.
The Edge Pro Clone uses the longer stones, but lacks Knife control the way I require it. However sometimes, you may need to free hand jig some knives, so having it available is a good idea, with stout magnets added.
This is being built to do gun shows, for knife sharpening. I will man a booth, signing people up for gun safety classes, and offer free knife sharpening to attract customers.
Because each head on the tripod has a crank to adjust tilt, you do not adjust the guide rod arm for the KME, you adjust the tilt heads. Very easy, very precise.
I will take this to gun shows, along with a small roller cabinet tool box, with a wet sharpener mounted on top. No one sharpener, ideally suits each sharpening need, but in this kit, I should have it pretty well covered, to sharpen most knives, quickly, and accurately. I can also do exacting mirror polishes for people interested in that. (that will not be free)
