Some quick thoughts:

I have a nice, but small collection of knives.. around 8-10. I wanted something a little more upscale and after a little research I became interested in the TSF Beast. I contacted Jim and I guess I was in luck because he told me he just finished a batch and that he usually have a couple extras, so I was able to order one and have it arrive the following week. If I'm not mistaken I believe that people get on a waiting list to get these knives.

It arrived.. holy moly this thing is beautiful. Everything about it is class. It fits in my hand perfectly. The lockup and blade centering are perfect. it came screaming sharp. I guess that's to be expected from a handmade knife?

This could easily be my "grail." I cannot recommend it enough. The feedback from Jim was quick and helpful. I inquired about taking it apart to send to Maprik for some anodizing but now I'm second guessing that as it is beautiful on its' own.

For $300, it can't be beat! Classy, yet made for EDC. what are your thoughts?

Jim does make a nice knife. I've a couple from him, including one of his older models with the rounded scales and heavier blade. His coated models rock too.

I like that his knives feel good in your hand without feeling too big. But are still a stout knife.

Good stuff!

I've handled one and they are very nice. Not as refined as I would of imagined but they are still very well made knives. It's a knife to last a lifetime.

Your thoughts are pretty much spot on. I had this knife a couple years ago and I can only assume it has gotten more refined.

It is a good size for anyone, well built and confidence inspiring, easy to carry, good amount of blade for the size. He has the waterjet cut presentation side for grip and a smooth lock side so it doesnt shred pants. My only complaint when I had it was I felt the thumb studs stuck out a bit too much so it would half deploy when I pulled it out of a 4 o'clock waistband carry position. Its nothing fancy or extraordinary, its simple and functional, and for the price its one of the best values out there.

I picked one up off the exchange recently, it was listed as M390 but after talking with Jim it turned out to be S35VN. Jim has a pretty good sense of humor and seemed like a down to earth guy. The knife is very smooth and you get good leverage on the thumb stud, so it flies open. Love the accents he puts on the pivot screw heads and the waterjet cut out on the handles are nice. Would be awesome if he made a flipper Beast.

Agreed, for the price of the Beast, for what it is, they're great buys

I've had four of his Beast folders; in 154cm, two in M390, and the most recent in S35VN. Every one has been excellent quality.
The last new one from Jim, about one month ago, I had mailed directly to a grandson in Michigan. Jim Allen's blades are plenty thick, about 0.156" (5/32"), and JUST SHORT of three inches from tip to grip, which makes them legal carry in most jurisdictions. That is a great idea, particularly if you live in one of those states where the rules and liabilities change drastically if/when the blade length exceeds some max value.
He is quick to answer your email, and a joy to have as a friend. A really nice guy.

I've always been interested in this knife, but never pulled the trigger.I have and have had a few higher end knives, and am interested in them, especially if I could get my hands on one in M390. I've had a Strider SnG, and while a nice knife, it was a bit more than I needed. I have a Brian Tighe mini Tighe Rod I'm trying to get rid of, and though I should use the funds toward the engagement ring I'm financing, maybe I'll pick one of these up. A flipper model would be nice as well.

I just got one this week from a BF member (thanks, blayglock). I was surprised at how much I like it. I really like S35VN as an "everyday, whatever" kind of steel. It's been real good to me no matter what company used it, so I'm expecting great things from TSF's offering. It has pleasantly surprised me as much as my first Paramilitary did. Both of those were just bought on "specs" to see if I'd like them. Now it's around 20 Paras later and I could see me adding a couple more Beasts to the family. None of them will move the current one out of the rotation, however. It's everything I like in a daily user.

I had one from his elmax batches when the logo was still on the blade.. great package

I traded for a Beast a few months back and have only left the house without it maybe twice. It's perfect for my needs. And what made me really fall in love with it was talking to Jim. I asked him one simple question and not only did he respond almost immediately, but we emailed back and fourth most of the day. Very nice guy and he really stands behind his work.

My only issue with the knife is that I don't know for sure what steel it is. The person I traded with was not sure. I asked Jim and he could only guess that it was s35vn. I think he could be mistaken because I think it's elmax. Not a big deal...I'd just like to know. I think one of my dream knives would be a blue one with m390 steel. I'm also interested in a CCT.

The Beast and my Grayman Dua are the two knives I carry the most and recommend every chance I get. I love the smaller tank knives. I'm a little uncertain about Graymans customer service, but Jim's customer service is unbeatable.

I loooove that pattern milled into the handle! It's almost mesmerizing.

I wouldn't be too concerned man. It's not like you think it could be 440A or something. It's got to be good stuff no matter what it is.

I'm so glad I saw this thread and responded when I did. Jim saw my post and my comment about my dream knife being a beast with M390 steel and contacted me. He said he had an m390 blade that he would put to the side for me and make when I was ready. I was able to sell my current beast and another knife to fund it. He is currently making it and I could not be more excited to receive it. This just goes to show what I said about him and his customer service. He is hands-down the nicest guy and I will treasure this knife til I die!

The only thing that sucks at the moment is I have to ship out my beast tomorrow and will be without one til it arrives hahaha. But I know I found a good home for it and I would not have been able to afford the new one without selling it. It will certainly be one more person who will own and appreciate Jim's outstanding craftsmanship.

Jim is a great guy. I'm hooked on the tsf beast. I have 2 and I'm on the waiting lost for a Gorgon.
His customer service is above and beyond whats expected. He's prompt and his communication is quick. Emailing back and fourth with him is like texting.
All my knives that are from him are on the never trade/never sell list. I'll enjoy them and one day pass them to my son. But no time soon.

 another fan of the TSF Beast here. The name really fits even though it falls easily on the small side relative to other knives in my collection. Just feels stout and reliable. I am fortunate to own one of the M390 versions which my first choice among the ones that have been offered. Jim took care of me quickly when I needed to send the knife in for servicing.

The texture on the presentation scale and tasteful logo make for a very good looking knife. Smooth clip side allows it to slide in and out of the pocket easily, not to mention the great thumb stud. Did I mention the nice blade shape and pricing? They pop up here pretty often for less than $275 - total bargain.

TSF and Olamic are two companies I have great experiences with that kind of fly under the radar. They deserve any good press they get.

I agree I try to write as much positive stuff about jim and tsf as possible. For what you pay, you get one heck of a product.
Olamic cutlery is impressive too. I've seen see that guy( i know his name and don't want to misspell it) here on bf and he's an he's an impressive guy.
