Finished these up yesterday, all are deer leg bone that I died and stabalized using Bruce Evans secret bone recipe. The bottom blade is my favorite at about 6" overall with a 2 1/2" blade. The middle one is a touch larger, it and the top knife have 52100 blades. Each knife has a hand forged to the edge blade and mild steel fittings.......Ray

Hey great job Ray! I like the bottom too. The temper line really jumps out. Keep up the good work!

As alwyas, everyone has different opinions.

Well, that was a bad start. First off, contrary to how that sounds, love the knives. Meant that start to go with statement that second one is one that strikes me as being just right. Or middle one, rather.

But I relaly wanted to comment on the "backdrop" in this shot. Love it. ;)

Lynn, If I told you it wouldn't be secret. Its mainly after the bone has dried and been died we both use polyurathane in a vacuum chamber. Still playing with the die, these bones were done totally in there natural shape. When I try some more I'm going to preshape them somewhat in hopes that I don't lose as much color although I am pretty happy with the way these turned out. I figure by the time I'm done with the bones I've gathered this year I'll have a pretty good handle on what I should do with them for maxium results. There really a treat to work with, get pretty tired of just working wood handles and you know the stag situation.......Ray

Great knives! I like the bottom one most also, then the middle one and the top one last. Bone looks great and the temper line on little one really pops out. What steel is the little one, 1084 maybe?

The bottom knife is the only one that I'm not sure about what steel it is. A fellow had given me a number of bars that he'd gotten out of older model cars. They were a spring type affair that held open the hoods and trucks, not sure what they were called. They are 7/16" round bars, I'm sure they are a 10 series steel but not sure which one...Ray
