Yesterday, at work, I was raising a bead with a small knife edge graver ( setting a diamond) in a very hard to get to spot on a ring. The graver slipped and jumped off the ring. This is not unusual, and the way you hold things allows the graver to move harmlessly away from your left hand ( holding the ring clamp) and the rest of the ring. However, the edge of this graver was very acute, and had not been dulled behind the tip. As it slid along my right ring finger ( it is held sort of like a carving tool) the sharp edge cut into my fingertip. This is a first for me, since I usually dull the sharp edge on every graver belly ( must have missed this one). I didn't think it was more than a skin nick until I looked down and saw the blood. I got out the suture kit and put in three stitches. My left handed suturing was still pretty good. The gals were up front with customers and never knew...or saw the blood. By the time they found out all there was to see was a blue nitrile glove on my right hand.
I'll try and post some photos tonight ( camera is at the store).
