Three threads in general

There were three threads bumped in GKD today. All posts that bumped the threads were mysteriously unable to be seen. One thread had a comment, seemingly all alone with no apparent reason why, stating something about the person who bumped the thread needing to buy a membership. All threads were about LEO duty knives. All threads are no longer visible.

I thought individual posts weren't supposed to be deleted, and threads even more so. What happened?

Sounds like a vast conspiracy!

Or some knucklehead just zombied 3 old threads that nobody looked at for years to get some spam in, and the mods just canned the old threads entirely.

Thank you for that completely uniformed opinion. I was looking for someone that could say why they were deleted and not just locked. Seems like you're next in line to be a mod, keep it up marcinek!

bodog, marcinek is absolutely correct. The necroposts were spam, so we deleted them as spam, banning the spammer.

marcinek isn't a mod, but he is very familiar with our work, because he asks questions instead of playing know-it-all.

Well, I've never seen him ask questions or be anything other than something I obviously can't say outside if WC, but that's not the point. There was one person asking questions and one person acting like a know it all and one person providing solid answers rather than guesses. Your insinuations have it backwards.

As far as asking questions, what was my first post other than someone asking questions? I stated what happened and asked why, nothing more. A simple post from a mod would've been fine, I don't know why you insinuated what you did. I didn't think threads were supposed to be deleted. That's what has been said multiple times by several mods, no deletions unless the OP was obviously spam. While old, the threads weren't spam. I was curious to read them. When I refreshed the page they were gone. I was simply curious about why the entire threads were deleted. Nothing more. I asked questions in the appropriate area. Is there something wrong with that?

Whatever. Think what you want. I wasn't stepping on anyone's toes and marcinek seems to get a free pass to do that as he wishes. Several mods seem to think and act exactly like him. But that's none of my business. I just want to discuss knives in a fair place and in a fair manner. Others seem to have other agendas.

What are the guidelines for deleting threads? Obviously spam. Obviously hostile, embarrassing threads. Anything else?

Hostile, embarrassing threads? We don't delete them, we move them offline. Except yours. We leave those for comic relief.

Marcinek has been here since 2007 with 14000 posts. I'm sure he asked most of his questions before you or I came along.

I read his response as a likely summation of what happened (in his own colorful way) and it turned out that is exactly what happened as Esav kindly confirmed.

I think I saw the thread with other comment. Didn't see the others.

My uneducated guess about the other the threads would be that since the bumping post was deleted (for spam) the necro-threads spiraled back into their resting place in the annals of General Knife Discussion. That, or they were moved to the Back End. Sorry for giving an opinion on a board of opinions.

We don't delete them, we move them offline.

Is there a difference? I assume "moving offline" means no one can see them anymore.

Thank you for your courteous response. I'm ignoring the parts not inside the quotes just because Id like to think people can be upfront and respectful like they've been treated themselves.

Thanks man.
