Does anyone knows what core is in new Cold Steel Warcrafts San Mai? I have seen video where Mr. Thompson says that is VG1 and soft sides are 420J2 steel. He was mention that is edge 59Hrc and
back are 54 Hrc. If is then OK. I have Medium San Mai Warcraft and core is more like 3V but i don't know.
Second thread is Spyderco Starmate. Actually its liner lock. It looks very thinn. Is it strong enough for regular use?
Third tread is for Benchmade Saddle Mounatin skinner in S90V. Can it be used for light batoning?
Thank you!

Taiwan made cold steel san mai last I heard was vg10 core..and likely same outer steels.

the new starmates are quite strong. should be fine for normal knife use. its not all that thin.

dont know on the benchmade question.

On Cold Steel page you have filter option "steel family". One knife is in VG1 San Mai category, 10 in VG10 San Mai and 3 in just San Mai. These three are Warcraft models. I had VG10 San Mai Magnum tanto 2 and Outdoorsman. I think that Warcraft has much better edge retention. I don't know. I had Warcraft tanto in 3V (Italian). This San Mai has same edge retention as old model (i think). Maybe is core 3V or maybe is better overall production (sharpening, heat treatment, steel supplyier)? First VG10 San Mai knives were not that good.

the last of the japan made san mai were vg1 core. its not a 3v core in cold steel san mai. if its made in Taiwan its a vg10 core.
