In the watch world the three watch collection consists of a beater watch, a daily wear watch, and a dress/upscale watch.

I thought it would be interesting to apply this template to knives. Knives and watches are quite different tools, but the beater/daily/dress model works for knives too. Or just pick 3 without defining categories.

Feel free to add your 3 watch collection picks as well.

My daily would have to be the Spyderco Manix 2. I have 3 and carry one most days at work.

Beater is the GEC #72 lockback. I've done some dirty jobs with this knife. It cleans up well and still locks up nicely.

Dress- Spyderco Native 5 Ti. I tend to grab this one on the weekend outings. Fancier occasions I usually carry a Damascus slipjoint made by Alan Davis.20200123_121602-2241x3984.jpg

I recently cleared the photos from my phone so I only have a picture of the manix.

I'm not much of a watch guy (typically own only one at a time) but I wear one every day so I do try to buy one of decent quality. I prefer simple analogue designs that can be both dressy or casual--the ones labeled 'field watches' tend to catch my eye the most. I'd probably be still rocking my old Vic Swiss Army Original 24220 if the jeweler hadn't damaged it while cracking the case during a battery change. It happens, I guess.

That said, my eye keeps wandering back to the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium. Probably a better watch than my current Vic Officer's, but fills the same role. My Vic is still going strong so I can never seem to hit the 'Buy Now' button... *somebody please talk me into buying the Tissot! :D

Maybe I'm just skeert of being sucked down the watch rabbit hole...

Daily, CRK Umnumzaan Tanto
Beater, Freeman 451 flipper
Dress, ZT 450CF

Soon my daily will also include my ZT620 once it comes back from warranty service

I don't dress up enough to warrant one of my three being dress, so I'll go with daily, alternative daily, and hard use.

Full Track/ Explorer II, for daily

Inkosi/ my vintage (birth year) Omega Seamaster Cosmic, for slightly dressier daily

Adamas/ Seiko Tuna, for hard use.

The last one is the most subject to change, but the Adamas is one that I have used as an outdoor work knife the most, so I'll go with that for now. I could also go with my Ritter Grip, Cru-Wear Manix, or a few that I have in mind for future purchase.

In the watch world the three watch collection consists of a beater watch, a daily wear watch, and a dress/upscale watch.

I have a few watches and always thought a classic trio to be a dress watch, diver, and chronograph. I always have a beater or two as backup. My wife often wears one or another.

Dress ... Junghans Max Bill Automatic
Diver ... Seiko Marinemaster 300M
Chrono ... Omega Speedmaster Professional
Beater ... Seiko SKX007

These categories make it difficult to match to pocket knives. But here’s a go at it.

Custom Laconico EZC
Shirogorov HatiOn Lite
Massdrop Keen

Another thought is that a beater knife should be a fixed blade.

My daily would be any of my plain handle or micarta CRKs. They get worked but not abused.

My dress would be any of my wood/Damascus CRKs
