Threw myself together a simple stitching pony.

I designed it to just clamp in my bench vise, and kind of but right against the top of the vise jaws.

That wingnut was a no-go, way too hard to tighten it.

I thought about it for a minute and came up with a crank handle instead.

I also removed one of the jaw pieces to give it a realistic capacity.

I do recommend a thin leather lining on the jaws. Not absolutely necessary but it will help to protect your work pieces from scratched or dents.
