I rarely find anything of interest knife wise in the local thrift store. But I had an opportunity to speak in another city about 100 km away so I checked out a few thrift stores.

In one of them, I found this old knife. Looks like it was well used.

Markings say I-X-L George Wostenholm Sheffield England. Seems to be a fairly decent pocket knife. A previous owner cut his initials L.M. into it.

Sorry about the pictures originally - put it on Flickr and didn't realize they had pulled the direct links to the jpegs. So had to upload it to photobucket.

That's a beauty. I almost never come across Sheffield knifes, and when I do they're meat-carving sets.

Nice IXL Barlow, still being made today. I wish we still had thrift stores here :)

Are you going to use this knife or is it for your collection?

I did sharpen it a bit, but will likely use it for for the collection. At the moment I usually carry either my Rough Rider lockback Canoe (bought new) or an older Monarch barlow I picked up in an antique shop. Have an Ontario Rat II as well, but I find the traditionals seem to fit better in my pocket.

We call them OP Shops (opportunity).
good score.
