Just wondering why they are through hardening all the sr101 blades? Have they improved the heat treat to where they dont have to do a differential heat treat anymore? The 711 and rodent 9 are all through hardened now. Will they still have the lateral strength? Im skeptical about ordering a 711 because of this. Thanks.

My guess is that in the early days the swamp started out with differential heat treated sr 101 because they felt it needed that for toughness. However as the crew got more experience with the steel and put out more and more blades they realized that they had so few failures that the differential heat treat was not with the time and cost.

The crew probably better understands the limits of sr 101 and what it can handle.

I love a differential HT and a nice hamon so I am really sad to see so many through hardened blades

The differential is neat looking when stripped, but I doubt they would offer it with the same warranty they do if it were unable to handle it.
Or another way of looking at it is if you think you can break 1/4" thick 7"+ long piece of through hardened SR101 with your hands, I want to see the video/pics and your hospital bill if you are actually successful.

I can barely even flex any of my INFI or SR101 that is .25 or thicker even when splitting wood and it always comes right back to true.
Heck, even a .187 ruck took all of 235 lbs pushing full force at the end of the handle to flex like this and that is only 75% of the thickness with double the length for leverage. ;)

As you can see, it came right back to true, so .25 half the length should be plenty stout.
