Throwing Tops knives?

My brother just got a Tops Tom Brown Tracker, that he is looking forward to throwing at things. He says he knows a buddy of his that throws his Tracker into car doors!

My main question is, are the 1095 1/4 inch thick Tops knives really built to withstand the punishment of being thrown at things? The manual for the Tracker doesn't say it can be thrown, but then again it doesn't say it SHOULDN'T be thrown either.

Now I myself am considering a Tops 111A Steel Eagle, with a "Hunters" edge:

It's the big one at the bottom, right next to the sheath.

Anybody got any experience with throwing these knives? How do they stand up? And how do the black linen micarta handles hold up to handle-hits?

While it CAN handle it' you are talking about spending a nice chunk of change on a peice of metal you will be hurling at a target and it is bound to get damaged eventually. The rivits in the handle scales will eventually loosen up and rattle as well as the potential of the tip getting broken or damaged (by nail, rock on the ground, or another knife in the target) :(

Also you would'nt want to throw by the blade on that bad boy.
I'd buy a dedicated thrower for much less, in fact a set of dedicated throwers for much less.

Not saying you should'nt get the SteelAngel but expect it to receive some damage and abuse. Just my two cents.

Is that a Geo Tracker? I know some people who drive like that ;)

I say go right ahead and throw the TOPS knives- If you have money to burn, I guess. They just seem a little pricey for throwers. The main way my throwers get damaged is from other blades striking the one already stuck. best to have a thrower you dont care alot about, since you throw it away constantly and subject it to varied and destructive forces.
