I received my new mini CQC-7A today and the thumb disk was very loose. I tightened it down and it's holding fine, for now. I feel like I should be using some blue (removable) Loctite, like I do in the pivot, but wanted to be sure before messing something up.

I can't recommend using Loctite or any thread locking compound. There have been cases where the screw snaps on people. Having a broken nub Loctited in the blade would be very difficult to extract! Did you take a closer look at the threads of the screw to see if they are messed up in any way?

I would also suggest staying away from any ind of thread locker at this point. Since you've already tightened it down, just use it a while and see if it stays. If it does, problem solved. If it doesn't, then it probably needs attention from home base. I've never had an issue with a loose thumb disk screw, so it doesn't seem to be a normal thing and it's most likely a thread problem on the screw or in the blade. That should be a warranty fix for you.

Actually, between now and when I posted the screw came loose again. I got the screw out and it's completely stripped, which explains why it came loose (both times). Coincidentally I ordered some spare parts with this order, so I used a fresh screw and the knife is good to go.

I'm glad I didn't use any threadlocker, it's a small screw and I can see how easily it could break off and get stuck in there. Not only that, these screws are squishy which I'm sure gives it more holding ability so long as it is not over-tightened.

Sweet. You're G-T-G. I love the whole spare parts idea that Emerson does. Just fits in perfectly with the philosophy that these knives are tools for users.

Emerson is going to send me a replacement screw with my next order, great customer service!

I've pretty much stopped buying knives from companies who think that I'm too stupid to dis- and re-assemble something so simple as a folding knife.

Between Emerson and Chris Reeve there's a pile of folders I want to own (and use!) before I'll need to shop elsewhere. Both companies support and encourage the use of their knives and don't threaten to void warranties over routine maintenance.

I wish I had started with these two companies, I would not have 45 knives from other manufacturers to sell on the web now. CRK and Emerson are the only two companies, besides Becker, that I'll probably ever buy anything from moving forward.
