Thumb Disks

I don't usually like thumb studs on my folders, like benchmade for instance, and have only had a handfull of knives with studs out of all of the knives I have owned. I just prefer other methods for opening my knives. Everybody has preferences I guess.

I have an Emerson A100 which has a thumb disk, and I like it fine and it works. I did find myself 'missing' opening the knife occasionally using the factory disk which was a little frustrating. I decided to get a larger thumb disk which goes against what I would have thought I'd prefer if you saw my opening statement.

Wow what a difference! It is so much easier and natural and grabs my thumb every time. Although its close to the thickness of the knife it is set so far to the back of the knife it doesn't look like it will affect cutting performance over the factory disk. Theres not much I would change about this knife, I just plain like it. But I'm glad I did this!

Supposed to be 25% larger. Factory overlaid on the larger one for comparison.

Notice the texture on the side is more visible more grippy than factory also.

Have any of you upgraded to a larger or different textured thumb disk? Did you like it more or less?

From the 5 pictured above I really like the one that is second-to-last in the last pic. Very cool.

The only one I felt that needed a bigger disk was my Super 7 so it got a PG Zirconium. I have a .45 disk on a regular 7 just cuz it looks cool, but it wasn't necessary for function.

I have Pete Gray bead blasted double knurled Ti monsters on my 6s. And I have 4 or more different ones (damascus, copper) available for other knives. Makes a big difference - makes easy super easy (since i never wave open any of them).

And yes, the bullet hole/target disc and the star disc are pretty damn cool.

Too bad Gray Precision can not be contacted !
No phone.
No email either. Tells me both my email addresses are not valid !!
So I can't send him a message. Maybe he's hiding ?

I have a large street reaper thumb disk on mine, feels and looks great but it wraps around the thumb stud cutout and accentuates that the screw hole for the thumb stud is not centered, which is mildly irritating. But I prefer it to the regular stud.

Try putting your email in and making sure there's no space after or before. My autofill likes to put a space after which sites deem as not a valid email because of it!
