Thumb flick open the Sebanza

If I just thumb flick the Sebbie to an open position, will that damage the lock? This might sound silly but I have to send my CQD back because I flick it open with my wrist and caused damages to the lock. The Sebbie I just got is so silky smooth that a flick on the thumb stud will open the blade from close to open! After the CQD I am just very careful how I handle all these $300 plus knives!

Please advise..

My opinion is no, you won't damage the knife provided you don't put a lot of wrist into it. I've never noticed any wear from this method of opening on a Sebbie. I'm sure others will chime in.

I'm sure that I remember reading somewhere, probably on this forum, that flicking open a Sebenza was not recommended. It might have even been from CRK, but I'm not sure.
I doubt that gently flicking open a Sebenza would hurt it but hard wrist flicks would probably take their toll, over time.

Harrydog: your right. It says on CRK's website that flicking the blade open will "cause the action to become rough over time" and will damage the stop pin. But I agree, if it is done quite gently then it shouldn't cause a problem. If it does you could allways order a new stop-pin sleeve and washers from CRK. :)

The only time you aught to flick the Benza is after re-assembly to make sure everything is seated fully.

I detest flicking as a rule as:

1. Its showing off and makes a " I have a KNIFE" statement
2. If the knife slipps...:o
3. Its not needed, if you like to flick, get a Bali or and auto. A waved knife would do as well...

I live in the UK though so low profile is the order of the day, no offense intended.

Thank you to all of you for the info, this Sebbie is so great that I just can't help but to play with it everytime I am on line! Just to feel the silky smooth action and the perfect fit is enough to make me forget about the tough time at work!:D

I've always used a thumb flick to open my sebenza's. I can use my thumb to start the blade and a slight motion of my wrist to cause the sebenza to just fall into place opened. I never use a hard throw to cause it to slam open as that is abuse that will wear out any knife over time. The blade is so smooth that I am like Investigator168 and just like to sit and see just how smoothly I can open it!:D

CRK definitely does not recommend it. Search for the "Unofficial FAQ (Long)" in this forum. Without looking it up, I believe it was included in there. Leo G.

I have a direct reply from Bridget of CRK, this what she wrote:

Thank you for your e-mail. I did get with Chris about it and this is what he said:

“Flicking a folding knife puts a lot of load on the mechanism, no matter how well designed or made. This is why we do not recommend doing this. Please be assured though that what you are doing will not cause the Sebenza to fail you in anyway. It will take a lot more flicking and slamming of the knife then what you are doing now.”

With that said, I am sure the question has been answered. CRK has a very good personal service and I am so glad that I have purchased their product.:p
