Thumb opener piece?

OK, I'm going nuts looking for a part...

I have a Buck folding knife, nothing fancy, but for about 15 years I've had an accessory/after market "thumb opener" on it, and I recently lost the opener, and now I feel lost without it! Can't open the knife one handed!

It was a metal piece that was folded over on itself, and that fold "clamped" tightly onto the back of the blade, and had a "shelf" that projected out...hold the knife in your right hand, press upward on the shelf, and the knife opened.

Anyone familiar with this piece? Anyone know where I can get one, or something like it? I looked all over the internet using all kinds of search terms, but couldn't find anything like it. I got so desperate that I tried drilling a hole in the blade so that I could jbweld a small screw as a thumb opener, but that blade is just too hard for my simple hand drill....

Help.

rict, go to smoky mountain knifeworks and look for the one arm bandit. They had them not long ago for 5 bucks. They go on with an allen set screw.

Man I can't believe people still know about the one arm bandit or even make it. Some good things never get old I guess.

God Bless

Guys,
Thanks for the info on the "one armed bandit"; although that is not the original aftermarket piece that I had on the knife, that is certainly a viable option. Like a replaceable thumbstud without having to drill the blade.

Did your device look like this?

It was called a "Flickit" but I haven't seen one for sale in twenty years.

yablanowitz,

I don't see any picture in your post, but I do believe that is what the device was called...more than 20 years ago, yup, that would put it in the right time frame.

Hmm...the pix are hosted here, so they should show up. You might check in your UserCP under Settings & Options (Edit Options) and make sure the box for Show Images under Thread Display Options is checked.
