Thumb Stud on CS San Mai folder

I have an older Cold Steel folder with the San Mai blade (3 layer laminated). It looks almost like the "Gunsite" or "Voyager" models they have now, except the lock on the back is down towards the bottom of the grip.

I got this in the early 90's for skinning hogs. It got lost and I just recently found it. I'd really like to put a thumb stud on it just for convenience, but was wondering if this is a good idea. I really like this knife and dont want to screw it up trying to drill through 3 layers myself.

Should I take it somewhere to have that done? Should I attempt it myself? Should I just leave it alone?

I'm just looking for a sanity check out there.

I'd leave it alone.

Drilling hardened steel ain't fun.

At worse, I'd look to get one of those add on things the put on Bucks.
