Hi,
I read somewhere that you can put a thumbstud on a U2. How does it work once done? Any downside? I'd be psyched to get mine to open with one hand, how much would it cost me? And what's turnaround?
Thanks so much!

I've done some but it was years ago. Fact is its not just a matter of putting a thumb stud on the blade. You have to modify the handle to make the blade close after installing it. Thats the hard part because that handle just melts rather than grinds and its a pain in the behind to finish out to make it look half way decent.

Its a job that costs about $35 to do and most folks elected not to do it since the knife is just a little more than this but to be honest with you thats fine with me because it is a bit of work to get right. I have to cut in a thumb ramp to hit the stud, and cut down to allow the blade to conceal the point so it closes the same as it does before the modification. The carbide drill to make the hole is about $17 plus or minus and of course the stud, and screw, plus cratex wheels and polish wheels to try to make the Zytel handle look decent when done. Thanks for asking.

Hmm, interesting. I've been thinking of doing this to my U2 so I'd carry it more. I'll have to think about this one. For now it's the BM Ritter Mini Grip low rider clip I just sent payment for.
