I see that there are available on the famous auction site, thumb stud and thumb bars. I am considering one for my EDC 110. How about some pros and cons for or against one or the other. Does either one hang up in the standard leather sheath. I have to say I have stubby fingers and sometimes my thumb has trouble pushing a stud the full arc to open the blade. Also due to older age my thumbs are getting weaker as well. Thoughts?

Bar will obviously fit in either sheath. The stud works okay in the nylon sheath, no experience with the leather one. I prefer the stud to the bar, its easier to use for me. Either one makes one handed opening possible, but its still not ideal compared to a folder designed to be opened that way. Not a knock against the 110, it just wasn't designed for it. The spring is pretty tight on the two I have and it takes a good bit of effort to open. That and the fact that I have to compromise on the position of the stud. It opens easier further away from the pivot, but looks better closer. The closer it is though the harder it is to get to because there just isn't a lot of space for your thumb to get there. Again, it just wasn't designed for it.

I've been using a thumb stud on my 110's and 112's since the 70's. I need to be able to open my knife one handed so it's a must for me. I really don't care to carry a folder without the ability to open one handed.

I figured it is iffy for the 110. I just had to ask anyways. I am assuming most studs are secured with a set screw. Do they ever loosen with use?

I've had good luck with blue locktite....no issues and it's still removable when needed.

I really like the "Kwik" version herre, but it will NOT fit in a factory leather sheath. You can get it into a nylon one, but I have to put the knife in at an angle and bring it out the same way, or it wants to hang up on the seem.

I want to try the "bar" version "edison" linked to, because I'd like one that will fit a factory leather sheath.

The bar version looks nice and should fit better in your sheath (I only have the nylon one), but it doesn't have as much purchase area for your thumb. I don't like it as much, but it may be a good compromise for the leather sheath guys.
