i have 2 small sebenzas. one with a blue thumb stud and one with a silver stud. is there any way to switch these?

Send em off to Idaho. I believe they have to punch them out so you'll have to pay for a new set.

I could be wrong though, that's been known to happen:D

Popped mine out with a hammer and punch tool. Just took the blade out, put it on a block of wood, drilled a hole for the stud to fall in. Then just lightly tapped it with the pin and it came right out. I don't know about pressing them back in, but I'm sure that could also be done on your own. I remember a few forum members talking about how they did it. I've never tried it since I put different studs in mine.

Be careful with the BG-42. BG-42 is so hard that CRK has had them crack when replacing the thumbstuds. CRK will also no longer replace thumbstuds on BG-42 blades because of this issue. So leave the BG-42 be. Not a chance you wanna take.

Are you sure? That would be a relatively recent change. I had it done not too long ago. I got a big, and fair :) , Miranda warning, but they were willing to go ahead as long as I understood the risk. I can certainly imagine a customer going postal after a crack even though they'd been fully warned ahead of time, though, and if that happened it'd be easy to understand a change in policy on that... :(

Yes, I am sure. I have 2 Large Regular BG-42's and sent them an email and asked if they would do double studs. Because the BG-42 is so hard, they have had a couple crack above the stud, which I am sure you have read about on the forum. I myself would be upset as well, so I can see people being upset. Here is the response from CRK:

" You are correct about the issues with BG42 so we are not replacing thumb
lugs on those blades any more...unfortunately it has happened often enough
that we decided to stop replacing them."

My email was sent 3-13-12, so its is relatively new I guess.

I want to get more custom engraving done on a plane jane Large Regular Sebenza, but want double studs. With my plane janes being BG-42 only, I asked because of the posts I had seen on the forum. So if I want to get the engraving with double studs, I am regulated to a S30V version. I will find another eventually.

Just use the one with the blue anodizing... and it'll wear down silver. And it would cost you nothing!

Edit: Oh god.. typos...

Send them in and replace them with double lugs for something like $35.00 You screw with the knife...they notice it... you lose your warranty rightfully so.

not gonna switch the blades, one is s35vn and the other is BG-42. i just dont like the blue thumb stud really

I've read somewhere that you can remove anodizing off of titanium with a product called Blue Away, though I'm not sure if it works.

It is possible to strip off an anodized color without sanding by using a product called MULTI ETCH. This stuff is pretty toxic and needs to be used with great care. It is a surface prep for anodizing but will also 'dissolve' off an unwanted color. In addition to removing the color it will also turn the titanium dark grey and even make the surface a little matte, depends on solution temperature and exposure time.

PSD makes this statement HERE on how to remove anodizing, but involves another type of stripper.

Or you could just polish it off with a Scotchbrite Pad.
