I have seen pictures of 110's with a thumb stud. I am curious as to how well they work and where I could purchase a couple to try.

Thanks!

*Pictures of your 110's w/thumb studs would be appreciate also! ;)

I have a strong dislike for them. They get in the way when slicing and stabbing. Catch on things i am slicing. They are too close to the pivot to give enough leverage on a 110. Just my opinions, some seem to love them.

I also don't need a stud to open a 110 one handed. I get it started with a pinch between middlefinger and thumb, (quarter way). then catch the point on my jeans to open (to half), the rest of the way with a nudge from my thumb on the base of the blade. It all happens in a flash. Done this 10 times a day for 30 years haven't cut myself or my jeans yet.

Use caution, till you get the feel. Do at your own risk. Don't flick it open it's dangerous.

I used do the same as eveled but I would catch it on my belt instead of my jeans.

I think they sell them on ebay but they just look to massive to me. I could easily see them getting in the way.

IMO, get a auto 110. It's hard to carry anything else after having one.

I just bought a thumb stud on Oy-bay. I removed it and reverted to the familiar method that eveled described and found that it was easier to open that way than with the stud. Disclaimer: I recommend that you don't listen to me and open your knife slowly and safely. Failure to do so may result in injury or death.

I tried the large one with an allen screw and it seemed like a good fix. But when I carried it a day or two it was always in the
way when cutting something. So, I took it off and now I thumb the blade out. Or pinch it and flip it out. These methods are just
as fast and there is nothing hindering the blade when cutting. It's your call and you should try it to determine whether you would like it or not. DM

I’ll voice the opposite of these guys...

I use them on all of my 110s. The pinch-flip-stick-fold technique leaves too much opportunity to drop my knife.

Besides, when I’m naked I don’t have pants or a belt to assist.

I use Kwik-Studs. The sweet spot on my Titan is at the transition between grind and ricasso. Out of the path of just about anything I’m cutting or slicing.

Mt Pokt, you didn't need to say that, it turned my coffee sour, I don't want to know where you keep your knife in that scenario... Ha!Ha! I think your Titan looks great!!!

Mr. Mandrell, HOWDY!! Where have you been?? Missing your post's...

I tried it on a 110 for a while but it felt awkward when opening. I think the knife is just too big a folder for a thumb stud. But on a 112 it feels just right.

I bought two and felt like the proper placement didn't give enough leverage .Didn't seem safe. You are welcome to mine if I can find them .

View attachment 908255 I like thumb studs even when I am dressed. I get them at the Buck Store. They sell 2 sizes. I prefer the smaller one. The numbers in the picture are the weights in ounces of the knives. The Buck thumb stud is reversible for right or left hand use.

I do something similar, but without catching the point. Pinch the blade between my thumb and index finger, and use my middle finger to push the frame/handle down.

My 110 gets used for field dressing game, thumb studs just get caught on stuff.

Dozens of deer, a mountain of squirrels and rabbits, and countless fish of all shapes and sizes and I can’t think of one time when I said to myself, “that damned thumb stud...”.

Bottom line, you’ll find just as many people for as you will against. And in the end, only you can decide whether you like it or not.

A lanyard and thumb stud are the only differences between my Titan and David’s. If mine is ugly for it; I’m okay with that! If those items weren’t useful to me, I wouldn’t have installed them. :)
