I just got a CV Case Stockman, and the walk and talk are spot on, F&F isnt so shabby either. Its very nice to see the older makers still making the effort to put out a quality piece at a great price.

Good for you! I'm partial to Case and think they give a lot of value for the dollars spent. Of my four Yellow Handle CVs only the Peanut walks and talks, but all of them are fine knives and only one was over $30. That one, a two blade trapper, and my Sodbuster Jr. I bought at a local hardware store. The other's, plus a YH CV Pen I gave my step-son for his birthday, I got NIB off ebay at prices below average retail. My barehead, slim, single-blade trapper and the soddie see a good bit of pocket time.

Case still makes a good working knife a working guy can actually afford and some fancier ones for those windfall days. I hope they keep going strong and stay put with their production.

Enjoy that stockman. What handle material by the way?

Its Amber bone, this is the third one I have ordered (I have a Canoe, I ordered another for a pal and this is for another friend) All of them have been up to snuff (which is more than can be said for Queen. Heresey I know to a few here but I havent had or seen a good Queen to date, even the ones at SHOT were nothing special)

For what I paid for it, its excellent value and considering it isnt made in sweat shop conditions is all the sweeter. Give me a couple of these over some tac-crap any day of the week.

Congrats on your new knife!

My recently purchased Seahorse Whittler is that Amber Bone color, and it's absolutely beautiful in person. Pictures don't do it justice.

I'm on the fence right now about a Red Bone Small Toothpick in CV. I don't have any CV knives, but I'm "iffy" about that Red Bone color. They call it "dark", but it sure looks fire engine red to me. Again, in pictures though... Hmm...

Count me in too. I have bought several Case knives in CV--stockman and trapper models--and they have been A-1 in quality. By the way, check out the stockman in bonestag, it is really beautiful. Case is a very good buy for the money.

I own a few of the large stockman in CV and amber bone, and had maybe one bad one out of four.

I've been looking for a good stockman that isn't made of "surgical stainless" and made in the US. After a search on CV steel I broke down today and ordered a Case Medium Stockman w/CV steel, with the yellow slabs.

This will be my first Case so I'll keep you all posted when it arrives. It'll be the primary whittler/wood carving knife when camping so I intend to put some miles on it.

Where were you able to find a new one in anything other than the Red Bone? It was my understanding those were the only "current issue" CV knives.

To the best of my knowledge the Yellow Handles are still being made in CV. One or two of mine are 2006s. The hardware store where I got a few didn't have any problem replacing the ones I bought out of the display.

I hope they didn't stop making the YHs in CV. That would just be so wrong.

Sam, I ordered it from KnifeWorks.com http://www.knifeworks.com/ .

They offer the Yellow, Red bone, and Bone Stag in CV.

The Medium Stockman in yellow was only $28.95 (+S&H - $6.95 for the first lb.). Do a search on their site for "Stockman" or "CV".

HTH,

Chris

Dayum, that is some good pricing, how can people buy POS Chinese stuff when you can get made in USA for this much? The mind boggles.

Ah, now I see my error. I was looking for specific patterns, and specific blade shapes (toothpicks, mini copperheads, whittlers; wharncliffe, sheepsfoot, etc). They do offer a good variety, just not what I was specifically searching for. Further, if you go to Case's site and do a search on "CV", all that comes up are the Red Bone series.

I did order a Red Bone CV Small Toothpick today. It kept calling to me. :) Though now I may have to check out a yellow handled CV knife in a different pattern. Darn. Gee, that Peanut looks nice! For some reason I've been into the smaller patterns recently.

Case makes 6 or 7 CV patterns in Amber Bone, plus the red bone CV patterns which are new this year, plus maybe 6 or so in CV in yellow. There are also one or two in the 6.5 Bone Stag in CV. It may be that their search function does not work properly and won't show all of the patterns.

Temper, what model stockman did you get?? I've got the 6318 and 62032 both in Amber bone. They both really walk and talk so I'm happy about that. But most happy with the CV blade. It is soooooooooo easy to sharpen and boy once I work it over with the sharpmaker, it is smooth and sharp as a razor. I love the Case CV models.

63032 is what it says on the box.

You know, I have been EDCing my Canow for about 2 years now and I'm damned if I can find a good enough excuse to change it for something else. I am looking all the time, but I just can't find the justification for retiring it. If the work I need doing is that hard, I get a fixed blade. Hmm maybe my wife finally broke me :)

Indeed it's hard to beat a Canoe, Temper. It ain't your wife!
They are arguably the best pocket knife!

I just started getting into slipjoints and bought three Case knives, a large stockman in bone stag (my favourite), a trapper in amber bone and a russlock in bone stag (not really a slipjoint, but I like the weird looking bugger!).

Although I did handle some at the store with weakish backsprings (they were left with all the blades half open for a while, maybe that had something to do with it) the three I bought and a trapper I got for my dad have excellent walk and talk, great fit and finish.

i really love the sheepfoot blade on the stockman.

I find the sheepsfoot blade the most useful of all. And when I carry another pattern that doesn't have one, I always end up needing a sheepsfoot blade.

Kind of like when you don't have a knife with you, that is EXACTLY when you will need one.

Received my Medium Stockman w/CV steel today!

Fit and finish is just as I expected. A very nice knife. Not perfect, but still nice.

The only thing that I don't like about the knife is that the sheeps foot blade doesn't sit low enough when closed. With the spey blade opened, the tip of the SF blade is exposed. With the SF blade closed it sticks up like a dorsal fin. Theres a good 1/8" between the nail nick and the spine of the spey blade so I'm sure a little file work on the stop will correct this with little effort.

The SF blade also has a grind that will need some improving. It has a slight "belly" at the front half and a slight recurve at the rear. So from tip to tang it has somewhat of an "S" shape on the edge. A little work on a stone will fix this too.

Overall, I'd have to give this knife an 8 out of 10 for production knives. Being an Imperial fan I won't jump ship to become a Case collector, but for user grade knives, I'll buy another without hesitation.

Just out of curiosity, wondering what it is about the Queen knives that you don't like?
