Thumbstud for 110?

Is there a maker or tinkerer on this forum that will put a thumbstud on a standard (or PCKS) 110? I love this knive, but the absence of a thumbstud is beginning to annoy me.

If you're talking about drilling and tapping the blade for a stud I don't know of anyone here that can help you with that (although someone might surprise me! :D ). Smokey Mt. sells something they call "One Armed Bandit" which is a clamp on opener. I don't use one, but I've heard several others say they work pretty well. ;)

Question for the factory guys (CJ, Joe or Jerry???) - how about making a thumbstud available as one of the options on the 110's from PCKS? I'd have one put on my next custom if I could....

Yeah, if PCKS offered a thumbstud option, I would buy one of those and just keep my current one as a "classic"!

I've got a one armed bandit on my 110 finger groove and it works great.

I tried drilling and tapping a 112 a while back. What a misserable job that was! 6% cobalt drill bit did it, but trashed the bit in the process. Never dared try a tap, just used a socket head screw and nut for the stud.
Worked OK, but I did get it a little too far out on the blade. Also the 112's spring is a bit on the heavy side to realy flip it open.
I would love to see a factory option on this.

I solved this problem by getting a buck 110 Auto, converted by paragon. What a difference a button makes! This is a super knife, leaf spring, opens like a rocket. Its everything i wanted in a Buck 110 and more.

The one armed bandit works great. I use one on a SOG Tomcat.

I have three One Armed Bandits from SMKW. They work better than they look. If you are set on having someone drill and tap your blade for a stud I would still get one (around $6) to test for positon. The One Armed Bandits are easily adjusted and very secure.

The other great thing about the one armed bandits is that they come off if you don't want them and they act as a thumb rest.

Joe did not get a chance to post anything yet about adding this to the custom knife shop.

We are in the process of redesigning the custom knife shop to make new models easier to add. Right now our "coolness" factor is so high tech it makes it a real chore to add a new model or variation.

We decided you guys would rather have more choices then computer effects.

is that correct??

Here I sit drinking my 2nd cup of coffee, pondering a question that surfaced less than a week ago! Amazing! manicreader must have read my mind! I was at the computer & looked over at one of my 110's sittin' there & thought ... 'I wonder if I could drill & tap a hole for a thumbstud? Haven't seen any 110's with one!' Glad I ran across this thread - Thanks! Be looking for updates to PCKS, CJ - Thanks, also!:D

CJ, FWIW from my point of view a "less" cool
Pete's in favor of an easier flexable site to
add/ subtract models and options from would be
"cool indeed.

While it really is a marketing dream to be able to
show what any combinations will look like whatever
is on your computer screen will NOT be what the
knife actually will look like when it arrives. So
for my 2 cents make it simple, flexable and tell
folk's that these "representations" are "close" to
what you will receive as we can make it. Buck fans
will understand and "new" Buck fans will when the
knife arrives. :D :D :D

CJ - as has already been mentioned, I would much, much rather see the option of having more models with different options at Pete's, instead of more "cool" graphics. I do think that being able to see a representation of the knife before it is built is necessary, at least to those that are not Buck Knuts and aren't sure what they want, or are Buck Knuts and can't make up their minds... - the idea of "possibly" being able to create a 500, or a Alpha Hunter with a BG-42 blade and Buffalo Horn handle scales already has me reaching for the checkbook. (There's no money in it, but I'm still reaching - :D )

BTW - Larry, I'm kidding about there being no money on the checkbook. You can send the knife..... :p ;) :p

Less flashy, more options seems to be the popular decision here. I like it because it gives me the option of adding new models! :D I love the 110 but there are other knives to be customized.
