Looking through the XM generational info sticky, a "domed" thumbstud is mentioned - and shown in a couple of pics - as a 4th Gen change.

I have four 3.5" Gen-4 XMs, one of which is a custom, and they all have stepped thumbstuds without any rounding. I was just wondering how common are the domed ones, is it found more or exclusively on customs, etc?

I'm asking because I'm looking to buy a 4th Gen custom that shows rounded/domed thumbstuds. At first I was questioning it's legitimacy but after checking the Gen sticky, I'm not so much worried about that as I am curious how many are out there.

This is something I hadn't paid a whole lot of attention to until now, but this will give me something to do tonight if it's quiet at work - I can go back through all of the awesome pics on the forum specifically to look at thumbstuds :)

Just went and checked my herd, I have both Customs and Production with domed thumb studs, I believe it is more parts bin and timing than anything.
Does not seem to be exclusive to either, or it would have been in my sampling.

I just got a brand new XM-18 from a dealer. It's a gen 4 and has squared thumb studs. My XM-24 has the rounded ones.

I have a Custom with domed and two Gen 4's one with dome and one with square ... rest are back in bed so, ......
:)
Wharnie in my pocket now - squared.

Scott has it right, it's a 50/50 type proposition which one you might see, they are both regularly used.

Ah, ok - thanks for the info! Makes me feel better about it, and kind of interested in getting one with a slightly different feature :)

Got a dome on my XM-24... I like the dome look. Will have to check the others tonight :)

I assume this is the dome stud?
