thumbstud question

OK, I did like many people and fought the Sebenza for a while. I now have a large Insingo, two umnums, and a recently acquired small insingo. I have loved the large insingo and thought it would be nice to have an office friendly version. I love the small also....except for the tiny thumbstud. It kind of hurts to open (of course opening it a hundred times a day doesn't help things). My question is--Is there any thumbstud modifications you guys have done? I wish there was a way to put a larger one on. Suggestions?

This is in no way a sarcastic response. Eventually your thumb will develop a callous and the thumbstud discomfort will be a mute point.

Not the most helpful response, but it works;)

HaHa! I hope so. Right now it's just a red sore thumb.

I went through the exact same experience as you have.
I now place my thumb in between the scale cut out and thumbstud and use the side of thumb to open the blade.
Heal your thumb first and give it a try.

Exactly. Also, leave the Sebenza alone for about 4-5 days...give your thumb time to "heal". The time away really helps with the soreness, and helps give your thumb time to adjust.

This is actually the way it's meant to be used, IIRC from an old thread. I solved the issue by having double lugs on my small micarta and using two hands like it was a slippie with a nail nick. I can do it one-handed, but I agree that the thumb lugs on small Sebenzas are the weak point of the design for me.

I got my Sebby Insingo in Oct 11, and ordered it with dual thumbstuds.
Now I can have two sore thums for the price of one !!

Seroiusly , yes I agree , your thumb and technique will improve , and you will open it easily .

Safe cutting .

I got my first (small) Sebenza yesterday and my thumb is a bit sore after opening and closing it all day :) (to find the most comfortable technique -- I do this with all knives). For me, the thumbstud is not a problem. It's the lock bar, which is stiffer than I'm used to, that's causing slight discomfort when disengaging. I feel the thumbstud after a while too, but I think it's because the thumb has become more sensitive from the lockbar.
