about a year ago, i began trying to customize my 110. with som help from darryl and chickentrax, i managed to bore a lanyard hole. I decided that I wanted a thumbstud on the knife so i wracked my brains to figure out how. I saw a picture of the one arm bandit, and had a brainstorm.

since my only metal working tool is a dremel, without a drillbit, i had to modify my plan.

I used the shank from a spade bit. I cut (slowly) groove the width of the blades thickness. Then I cut the length of the stud from the bit shank. its easier to groove it before cutting it off, as the length of the shank makes it easier to work with.

since I can't bore the steel of the blade, nor can i drill the stud, I had to use epoxy to get it to stay on the blade. I figured out where it would be most comfortable, and marked it on the knife. i used a 2 part epoxy putty that sets in 5 minutes and cures in 1 hour. i packed the groove with putty and forced it onto the knife and let it harden. i shaved away the overflow, and let it cure.

so far so good. i'm going to run by pete's to use his sanding stuff and clean it up. the epoxy is pretty strong stuff. it should hold. if not' i'm going to have to rig some sort of drillpress to at least drill the other side of the stud.

sorry, i can't post pictures.

sorry, mav, i should have been clearer...i have no camera, so i can't even take the pics. i'll see if pete has a camera. sorry about the mixup.

Those two troublemakers!!! No wonder you have problems... :grumpy:

334dave posted some time back on inexpensive diamond burrs from eBay that will Dremel their way right through that 420C blade...get the slightly undersize burr and plunge/rotate the hole to size... ;)

if i can fing a burr, i might try that with my bucklite. if i can get brass stock, i think peening it once its in the hole should keep it secure.

yep it will work... i went throught a blade with one and it takes a while.. go SLOW with lots of water and you wont take out temper... use smallest dimond bur first then go up as required...
do not try with carbide ! it wont work!
i would not attempt to "peen" one tight and rely on it but it might work ...
use one for a hole with set screw on it...
