Thumbstuds on a Spy-DK?

Has anyone ever thought about putting an aftermarket stud through the hole on a Spy-DK? Any specific ones that you know will fit?

My reasons are very specific. I want a one-hand opening, non-locking knife with a blade 2.5" or shorter, and the Spyderco choil gives a degree of extra protection against accidental closure that is appealing to me.

This would enable me to carry it in both New York City and Boston, without running afoul of any of their misguided knife laws. I travel, often enough, from my home in Maryland through NYC on my way to southern New Hampshire to visit family, and we sometimes wind up in, or traveling through Boston. [/run on sentence]

The Squeak is an option, and is obviously designed to opened one-handed, but I would like all the blade length I can get. I could easily grind down the Spy-DK to the needed length.

So anyways... thoughts? Maybe a Kwik-bar?

I havent done it but it seems like a good solution. The holes are small and in the right place! I personally would do it if it fit a specific need for me- right tool for the right job :)
Also I would use an actual thumb stud kit from a knife maker supply store. That would look and perform the best. There is one in particular I am thinking of but im not sure if the supplier is a forum sponsor. The studs just screw together through the hole.

Why not a UKPK?
Has a full sized hole and if you're going to shorten it already...

I've also done a number of sketches on how a UKPK might look if I shortened it, using both the drop point and leaf blade as a template, and wasn't crazy about anything I could come up with.

Yes, I know I am overthinking this :D

Yeah, I guess if money is an issue then grinding down a discontinued S30V UKPK wouldn't work.

Yeah, and I would feel wrong doing that anyway, unless is was already a well used example.

So the whole time I'm undertaking this exercise, I was always thinking that if Spyderco offered a version of the Spy-DK with a thumbhole, that would be perfect for my needs. Lo' and behold, I just saw the Urban Lightweight Slipit in the 2015 catalog. Of course I would see it on the same day I took delivery of a Spy-DK lol. Handle looks a little different, but that looks exactly the sort of knife I have been looking for.

Oh well, the DK will hold me over until the Urban is released. I have a thumbstud coming that should arrive next week so I'll update you guys with a pic when it gets in.

Thanks everybody!

Here it is with Darrel Ralph CPU studs. They stick out quite a bit, so I may shorten them, but this is now only a stop gap until the Urban slipit is released.

For anyone else who wants to do this, the hole is roughly .2 inches. These particular studs have an inner step that is diameter .1875" and an outer diameter of .25"
