I was wondering what your opinions/thoughts were on thumbstuds and the round hole on BM Griptilians. Also, I like the sheepsfoot blade, but am not sure which blade shape would be good for general use including cutting, skinning, whittling, etc. Thanks for your thoughts.

I like the sheepsfoot blade and the hole a lot better than the stud. I think it looks better and since i've been known to obsessively open and close my knives i find the hole wears a lot less on my thumb.

The 'Sheep's Foot' blade is excellent for the chores you mentioned and is my personal favorite in a Grip. One more advantage to the hole, is that you can use all of the blade without fouling the item being cut, on the stud.

On the 556 I used to own, I found that the thumbstud got in the way of slicing though fruits or whatever I was cutting and it was in a bad spot for the stropping angle too. The thumbstuds just didn't want to go through the material I was cutting as well as nothing at all :D I vote hole in this case . . . Spyderco was very wise when they came up with the Spydie hole. It's one of the best opening methods I have ever used, personally

I can't speak to the thumbstud, but I personally love the thumbholehole/sheepsfoot. I EDC mine on the weekdays and it's perfect for it. I used to prefer my Delica, but the thumbhole and blade shape of the Mini Grip have now won me over

I like the thumb stud and that blade shape better overall but as others have mentioned the stud is kind of a pain for sharpening/deep cutting.

Sheepfoots blade is awesome with the round hole.

It's mostly a great design because you can put your thumb onto the top of the blade to get really precise and pressurized cuts.

a blade with thumb studs on either side looks like a long-snouted animal with short ears, but that's just me. a holey blade might look like you went to a gun fight with a knife. at least you can hang it from a nail on the wall.

to be slightly more serious, thumb studs can cause problems in sharpening (not for all though.) a hole exposes more blade while in the closed position. also, since the blank that was laser-cut for the hole is recycled, it's a bit like buying a propane gas tank. you pay for the full 11kg but use up only 10kg. the difference goes back the the refiller as "residual income."

From someone who has both, I prefer the hole over the thumb stud. I find the sheeps foot blade very practical for EDC

Won't interfere with sharpening media, either!

Thank you all for your input. I will be purchasing the Benchmade Mini-Griptilian w/sheepsfoot blade and yellow scales ASAP.

This input is equally good news to me as I pick up my Mini Bone collector in a couple of weeks!

Thanks!!

Ben
