Ti handled Police

I undestand that there were 2 versions of the Ti handled Police manufactured. One was a Cutlery Shoppe exclusive. Can anyone tell be how they differ?

Thanks,

Mike

Cutlery Shoppe Ti Police models are 30% serrated. Spyderco-sold models are 100% serrated. Both are identical to steel Police models except that they have Ti handle scales (pins are still steel, and thus visible) and ATS-34 blades (marked as such) with no "POLICE" stamp.

Spyderco has given a variety of answers regarding the number of each produced (both on the forums and on the phone), and if there was an "official" number, I have forgotten it. Suffice to say that there were not more than a "batch" (1200) of either, and likely fewer. They have some collector value, but are also great "using" knives, and I'd only give mine up for the 30% serrated model!

ok, im usually wrong about such things, but i was under the understanding that the cs only version (which came first- circa 1990 ish) was the full serated. the later, spyderco distributed model was the 60/40.

i have neither one as people who use them dont want to part with a fave, and those who dont use want too much money.

Could very well be - mix this stuff up pretty easily. I acquired mine second-hand (trade for making Ti scales for an AFCK!) so I can't really say where it came from originally. I did call Spyderco once about it and they told me they couldn't say how many part-serrated were made because it was done exclusively for Cutlery Shoppe... but maybe my memory has reversed it. Dang, hope I'm not misinforming...

If my memory serves me right (and I'm not having a "senior moment") There were 500 pcs made for Cutlery Shoppe, fully serrated. Then there was another 500 pcs made for Spyderco, combination edge.

...well i guess it dosent really matter all that much anyway, id love to get my hands on a "user" of either breed.

if anybody has one gathering dust, gimme a shout.

Mike - beats the helloutame. I cannot imagine them selling for less that $150 and more than likely higher. Original MRSP was $250. Cutlery Shoppe sold them to the ELU for $125. Went great, but killed the model for future sales so we ended up discontinueing the model. One of the advantages of MAAP. Not having MAAP in place cost Spyderco & the ELU the model.

Chrisjohn - Modern technology permits us to make it cheaper now, but it would still have a MRSP of over $175. Maybe after the next
"design refinement" to the Police model.

BTW we have thought of it. I have and am testing a flat ground ATS55 titanimum handle Police Model. Very nice piece.

Definitely interested in a Ti Police.

A few suggestions from the beat;

50/50 blade.I seem to spend half my time opening mail and the other half in situations where the serrations come in handy. In Marine Law Enforcement I cut a lot of line in rescues and routine maintenance.

A dark dull ambidextrous tip-up clip that allows the knife to ride low in the pocket. Tactical tip: I'm right handed, but often carry my knife on the left side, so I can access it while performing weapon retention or other tasks. A uniform holster often makes access to the right pocket difficult anyway.

Some type of sandblasting or checkering that would give a little better grip without being
abrasive to clothing.

CPM440- ultimate handle needs an ultimate blade.

Additional comments anyone?

I concur that 50/50 plain/serrated blades are really the way to go.

Still prefer skate board tape on the steel or in this case Ti scales. Seems that CPM440V would be the way to go as well...
