Ti knives and metal detectors?

I see that Mission has to discontinue their all Ti MPFs because of a new state (CA) law against them. I heard that all Ti knives are not picked up by Airport metal detectors....is that true?

Here we go again....

Metal detectors detect metal not magnetism. Some metals show up more strongly than others; the same weight of brass shows up more than steel, steel more than titanium, but titanium knives are not impervious to metal detectors.

Some mines and other bombs have magnetic detonators. Titanium is not magnetic so titanium knives, prybars, screwdrivers, etc. are good for disarming such mines.

Metal detectors operate using inductance. It's a property of conductors related to magnetism (not ferromagnetism, the property of being "magnetic"). For a better description, find a physics textbook of first-year college-level.

Any conductor will set off a metal detector, and it so happens that all metals are conductors. Depending on the sensivity of the detector, one might be able to set it off with a glass of concentrated salt water.

Mission will not be discontinuing any titanium knives. These are not included in the new law. But the CTs are. For the CTs, we will only be selling to the police and military.
