Yesterday I comleted my first prototype liner lock out of aluminum. It is held together with pins.
I want to make a model out of TI and was wondering what size of liners and screws I should be looking at. The folder is a gentlemens folder, at 6" overall.

One other thing, if I want to lap the inside of a drilled hole, how is it done, e.g. I know there is special laps made for this, but are the holes drilled undersized and then lapped? If some one could walk me throug this, I would apprechiate it.

Thank you kindly,

Thomas

Thomas,
For that size folder, 0x80 screws look nice. They can be a pain to work with cause the tap is so small and fragile, especially with titanium. For structural screws (that aren't seen) I'd recommend 1x72. Les Halpern or RB Johnson both sell good ones.

I use a reamer for the pivot hole. I've used laps but just couldn't tell the difference, and a reamer is easier and cheaper. MSC sell them in just about any decimal size you can name. After heat treat you can also re-ream the hole with a carbide reamer and that will make it real slick.

For liners, I never go below .050, and that's for a 3" blade knife. For 4" and longer I use .065 - .070 liners. Seems like customers like the security associated with thicker liners, and it makes for a more rigid knife.

I recommend 6Al4V for the liners. Tried them all and nothing beats it. Les has Ti also.

Hope I helped.
