Ti Liners in Super CQC-8?

The CQC-8 has been using titanium on the lock/liner side and steel for the liner on the other side for quite some time. I just stumbled on some info that suggests the Super CQC-8 uses titanium on BOTH sides. Does anyone know if this is true?

Hard to say. The liner material on the opposing side is nonmagnetic as well. Some threads have suggested that it is some sort of stainless, not the typical 420J2 though. The same threads have discussed that years ago both sides were Titanium.

I think that the older Emersons had ti liners on both sides. If you look close at the edge of the liners of an older Emerson they should be tarnished to the same color. On newer knives the lock-side liner should be just slightly lighter in color, because ti doesnot patina as dark as stainless.

Why do you use stainless steel on one liner and titanium on the other liner?

We use Aerospace grade titanium on the spring/lock side liner. Titanium is the perfect material for that function and has all of the properties needed to perform the duties of a strong reliable locking liner system. The opposite side (non-lock side) is crafted from a 300 series stainless steel. This side of the knife functions as a handle frame stiffener and has a minimal mechanical function. The stainless steel is truly stainless. It will not rust and does not affect the overall performance, wear, or durability of the knife in any negative way.

The switch was around 2006 or 2007, long before Super 8 was released.

The non-locking side is 303 (or 304), a non-magnetic, non-hardenable, austenite stainless steel.

btw, the non-locking side liner of Emerson folder WILL rust if left with no care. It's more stain resistant than cutlery steels, but definitely not rust proof.

 Thanks for the details. I do recall now that you mentioned it, it was a 300 series steel.
