Along with many others, the the Para2 is one of my favorite knives. I was looking at the Spyderco build thread and I was wondering if a Ti Para2 would even be a possibility? I am in no way an engineer but I think a integral compression lock would be challenging! What do you think?

Why would it have to be integral?

Just take a Para 2 and have Ti scales made. The liners could still be SS

It's possible, I remember Sal commenting somewhere that the price point would be extremely high, seeing that it's a US model.

You would be talking Sebenza range.

Really?! I was just thinking about cost. I can't see why cost would be in the Sebenza range. The reason why CRK knives are so expensive is because of the extremely tight tolerances they posess. The Ti Military is fairly inexpensive for a large Ti framelock. But yeah, I didn't even think about liners! That would make it much more affordable I'd imagine!

They made a salsa with Titanium integral comp lock...I dont see why they couldn't do it with a para 2. Also the ATR.

The compression lock is a difficult lock to manufacture. Add that to the high material cost and USA labor cost and you are in Sebenza territory. There have been several Ti Para threads and that always comes up.

That said, I would pay it.

I'd pay it on the condition the f&f was comparable to a Sebenza. No pivot play at all. I'd actually love it!

The Spyderco Para 2 is next on my "To Buy" list, is there a problem with many of the Para 2's having blade play?

I've had nothing but great luck with Spyderco; the Native is best low cost knife I've ever bought, Manix C95 has been in my EDC rotation for years and the Sage 2 is what I use to judge all other Ti framelocks against.

Me too. :D

If I wiggle from the blade tip, there's probably a hair or two of play. But down by the base, there is none in mine. I have the 20CP though and I've seen people complain about the tolerances on it.

According to posts by Sal over the years, that isn't likely to happen. I don't think that's bothering anyone, either. Spyderco has a really long track record of delivering highly innovative steel and lock designs with solid functional quality at fair prices. They aren't trying to compete with CRK.

After seeing some pics of the ATR, I'm convinced that an Integral-Compression lock on the Para 2 is not only possible but would be absolutely awesome. With high-dollar projects like the fluted Ti Millie and the Lion-Spy, I doubt that the price point would be of much concern for Spyderco or us as consumers, unless it was completely egregious. I'd gladly pay "Sebenza" cash for a Integral-Compression Para 2, as long as it was Ti and not SS.

How about a Para 2 with a fluted Ti Integral-Compression-lock and CPM-S110V steel? I get dibs on two for thinking of such a great idea. It's just too good not to produce, Sal. ;) ;)

I think the integral compression lock has got to be the strongest lock out there. I would jump all over a Ti Integ Comp Lock Para 2! CPM-S35VN steel for me, though.

If a titanium lock is too expensive, I wouldn't mind a stainless steel one neither. Or maybe even an aluminum frame compression lock with a steel tip on the locking frame, like on the RIL on the Lionsteel SR1.
