ok, i know that the Ti JYDII was just released, but I'm wondering, what if Kershaw were to make a Ti/VG-10 Lahar for another sprint run?

Now that would be awsome!! I know that I would buy one in a heart beat! (you too KD. heck your the one who sold me on the original Lahar!)

same specs, only laminated VG-10 (heck the laminated SG2 would be fine in my book) blade and Ti handles.

What think Thomas? Tim? all you Kershaw nuts?

someone out there is going to say 1/2 ti, 1/2 G10...;) I think it's an awesome idea. My only sugestion would be to shape the ti handles and make them a tad less flat. Some swell to fit the hand. I assume it would be a frame lock, so it would be thinner to begin with so there's some room for thickening parts. Not sure if that makes sense. It does in my little mind. By the way... AWESOME knife, AWESOME idea!

OK, G-10 and liner on one side and Ti frame lock on the other. :D
Actually, I'm OK with the full Ti handle, and I definitely like getting away from the flat handles.

If they are shaped something like this, I'll be happy. This custom Lahar looks like it would be even more comfortable to hold.

They don't have to be jigged, or two-tone, but 3-D machined and rounded would be awesome.

As for steel, I think that Kershaw is just getting started with the exotic stuff.
Don't forget about the composite blade technology, I think we'll be seeing a lot of it.

personaly i think i would like all Ti scales. it would just look awsome. i agree with you KD and OE, more like the custom lahar and with a little "fatter" handles.

however i say the laminated VG-10 because it would prolly keep cost down. the Ti JYD2's are what? $140 or so? it shouldnt be much more than that. i would love to see the lahar with a composite blade, but i want to be able to get one of these if Kershaw decides to run with it. im a poor college student!

The point of the composite blades is to keep the costs down. :)

You'll be able to get a really exotic edge steel for only a bit more than Kershaw's base blade steel. The Tyrade is a technology showcase meant to attract attention, so it has two relatively expensive steels and other expensive materials.

I would hope something like we are discussing should actually be in the street price range of the ZDP Mini-Cyclone or less (bigger knife, but it will need less of the expensive steel).

true true. in that case VG-10 edge with 154cm or other steel "outter". i agree, the $140 -$150 range in price

ohhhhhh Thomas!

Hi,
I have never owned a VG-10 blade until last week, I purchased an SOG Vulcan folder. That VG-10 steel has to be the best edge holding stainless I have ever seen. ebay has them for 89.50. Shaped well to fit your hand as well.

yes VG-10 holds an incredible edge. check out this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=509803 to understand a bit more of what we've been talking about if you havnt already Bill.

No, nothing in the works. Can't really see any variation of the Lahar being done. Sorry.

Just out of curiosity Thomas, how come? If i had to guess it would more or less be that the materials aren't there and/or it would cost to much right now to do that sort of sprint run. I remember you talking about the budget a few weeks ago.
