I just got a new catalog from Cabelas. The Alaskan Guide Series are now described as having a "multilayer, hard diamond-carbon coating". Pictured with the knives are the S30V BOS logo & DLC Blackwidow Coatings logo. Is this a very recent switch by Buck?, or has Cabelas sent these knives out for an after-market blade treatment?

Just a little more info to add: Crystallume Engineered Diamond (Santa Clara, California), a division of RobbJack Corp., has announced the completion of its new Hard Carbon Coating (HCC) Center. With the company's new HCC coating system, a new line of hard carbon coatings, including DLC (Diamond Like Carbon), Black Widow HCC and specially formulated tribological coatings are available.
From their spec sheet, the microhardness(HV) of steel, at 60 Rockwell, is 697 HV. The microhardness(HV) of Blackwidow DLC is between 2000-4000 HV.
If Buck has made this transition to this product.....I want it

Scott,

I saw that too, and wondered what it meant? So are the AG knives now different altogether than what I have now? Maybe even better than their already great qualities ? May have to get another one! Oh no!:)

Hear that sound, Mr. Anderson? It is the sound of inevitability. The inevitability of your money trading it's existence for a Buck knife. :D

My coating on my Alaskan guide vanguard became severly scratched and chipped so I ended up removing it altogether with sandpaper. I was really suprised how easily it removed. Now My 110 hasnt been phased at all except at the pivot point. It will be interesting to see if this is a new coating how it holds up.
